Anybody know if you can have separate icons for sms message and text message. Right now they are both under "messages". Can you separate them? Thanks!

I'm assuming you meant SMS and voicemail from the title. You can add a new "Program" and then choose "Voice Mail." Now you have two different icons for SMS messages and voicemail.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah...I thought of that. The only issue is, I am looking for an icon that would be just for sms. The message icon opens the voice mail screen first. It also includes voice mail in the number of unread messages. I am looking for a way to have a dedicated sms icon so it would show only how many sms messages I have. I checked the market but could not find anything.

I've accomplished this setup with discrete voicemail and SMS icons and unread counts by using the "voicemail" program icon and Handcent.

Yeah use handcent for sms. It's better then the native app for sms, quicker more options better setup etc...

fig95, you should signup for a google.com/voice account. that way your voicemail is completely separate and you will get visual voicemail as well, all for free. then your messages would only be used for SMS, so the count would just be for that and when you go in there, it will always go into the SMS section first. there are plenty of discussions on maximizing your google voice account with your android phone. i've been using it since day once and its great. still has a few bugs, but nothing too crazy.

+1 for using handcent instead of native txt app. Your crazy not to use it, it's better and free.

Yeah that's exactly the point haha. It's so much faster, get no lag when opening conversations even when the get hundred and thousands of messages in them
