Here's for the, hold my hand crowd on installing this rom from Stock. Being here, you know the risks. (windows only, sorry. but if you can root your phone on Mac, OS doesn't matter when flashing this rom) Special Thanks to MikeyMike01,ChanceM & LinuxBozo *more special thanks to Al Gore

Root your phone first
Install Samsung driver for pc here. thanks to AC's DroidXcon's page here.
Easiest way to root is CLShortFuse's SuperOneClick 2.1.1 Download is at very bottom but READ the page. UNMOUNT your SD Card BEFORE you root (settings/sd card and phone storage/unmount sd card). If it ask to install busybox during the root process. Do it.

Once rooted, backup Contacts, Apps and SMS messages. Samsung's native contacts app can do one for you.
Titanium Backup for Apps (needs root for this). Hit the Menu key, Batch. I did "Back up all user apps + system data". Just in case. For sms, native app doesn't do this (from what I seen), I use Go SMS Pro which has a backup function for messages, check if yours does too. Call history? didn't care for it. Check in Market Place if you do. Calender events? I sync with Google calender, if you don't check market place. Also, It will not touch your internal/external sd cards when you flash the rom, but you can backup if you want.

**edit - Check out MyBackup Root and backup all info besides the apps. I'd still like to use Titanium Backup for apps. If you purchase the Pro version, reinstalling apps is faster.(no need to go through install for each app). Another reason to support the devs :) I personally haven't used MyBackup yet, but will try it on next rom flash.

CWM Installation Instructions: from Gtg's Q&A Page with links changed for Dipity
1) You must be rooted.
2) If you have a /Voodoo folder on your internal SD card, delete it and reboot.
3) If you're already running a custom ROM with Voodoo lagfix FULLY enabled, you can skip to step 7.
4) Download CWM-community-kernel-v8.zip if you're on Froyo or CWM-infused-v2.0.1-kernel.zip if you're on Gingerbread and place it on your internal SD card.
5) Install SGS Kernel Flasher from the Market.
6) Open SGS Kernel Flasher, select choose kernel, select the file you downloaded, and select flash kernel. Your phone will reboot and begin to enable Voodoo lagfix. Let it do that and boot all the way up. It will take a while (5-10 minutes) because it's converting all partitions to ext4.
*edit there's a cool female robot voice telling you it's process and when it is almost done.
7) Download S7_Infuse_8_26.zip and place it on your "internal" SD card.
8) Power off your phone.
9) With the phone powered off, hold both volume keys and the power button for about 10 seconds and then release. This should boot you into RED CWM.
10) Select "install zip from sdcard" and select S7_Infuse_8_26.zip. *edit volume up/down is cursor, power button selects
11) Once that finishes, select "wipe data/factory reset". *edit It wont touch the int./ext sd cards except for some database files in internal.
12) Select "reboot system now".
13) Do NOT restore system data with Titanium Backup. Do NOT restore ALL apps with data. If you absolutely must restore something with Titanium Backup, only restore MISSING apps with data.

The LAST 6 words are VERY important when restoring your apps. This is where it gets tedious, when you're restoring your apps, you're going through the install process again for each app. Only thing that didn't come back right were my widgets once launcher pro was reinstalled. But it was as simple as removing broken widgets and reloading them. Reimport your contacts (it even keeps your pictures, if you used the native app:D), SMS messages and log in to any of your syncing features (ie google, facebook). Then I just rebooted again to clear system resource from all the reinstalls. All back to where I was before flashing, except better, stronger. Like a Superhero! Enjoy Dipity my friends!

*edit
I forgot to add this part in the thread.

From mikeymike's official S7 page
http://serendipityinfuse.weebly.com/add-ons.html

Just check whatever addon's you want back in and it will create a flashable zip. same way you flashed the S7 rom but drop in the addons zip instead. From step 7 to 12. skip the wipe data/factory reset step and just reboot. Your apps will be there on boot.

ps i wouldn't install the color themes, (well, one of the blue themes, not sure which) they seem to mess up a couple things when you flash it.

**edit
If you didn't know yet, there are a couple major bugs in this rom. First call no sound on boot, 15fps video recording and no MHL adapter(HDMI) support.
The first call is simple to undo, just toggle the speakerphone button on/off and it's normal again. Thanks to the UCKI4 leak, Gtg has fixed the recording back to 30 fps. We probably won't have MHL until official AT&T GB release.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/in...0fps-video-recording-back-custom-gb-roms.html

You may see this thread change once a rom is released with the official builds. Gtg and Mikeymike have agreed to make a final GB release when it does. And we will have to worry no more, unless we are able to use IceCream Sandwich. Does this phone pass requirements for it?

After the kernal flasher thing (step 6) is done, do you still have to delete the recovery file like it says in the xda step by step for infused?

Negative, that list is a different way of installing the rom. This way is easiest. I did it the way listed in my instructions and never received any errors

everything is was going exactly how you described and I followed the directions to a tee, however after the robot chick stated she was through my phone is just black screen and vibrating
please help

it does take a while for that process. site said 10 minutes, mine took over 6. how long has it been now?

It took me having to mount my internal sd card from that red cwm.

From there I was able to place the zip file on the card and proceed. Scared me to death. Lol This was my first mod.

Oh yes I forgot to add that part in the thread.

Hi, new to android, having come from using ios since its release.
your instructions are pretty detailed and nicely done. I have my infuse rooted, backed up apps and data
etc etc.
I just need a little more hand holding if you will.
when I download CWM-community-kernel-v8.zip.
am I supposed to put the zip file on the phone (when you have it mounted as usb) or am I supposed to put it in a particular folder or does it have to be unzipped first?

Place the zipped file in the internal SD and install the ZIP from recovery

Thanks so much, worked like a charm.

I followed you walk through on installing a custom rom for my INFUSE and it was perfect. I installed seredipity. My wife has a samsung captivate I would like to install a custom rom and and wanted to know if your walkthrough can be used as well? Almost every ROM was DEV has something different but it seems the same principles apply, but I want to be sure before I risk jacking up her phone.

I would think it would be the same way. Root, Backup, Install CWM recovery, flash a custom kernal/rom. For ease of installation of any rom from stock, I would follow what the dev puts in their installation instructions. But once you have CWM Recovery, you can flash any CWM rom you want in. Infuse S7 is actually a direct port of the Captivate version so it should be better than our version.

For your wife's, if stock, I'd follow his (mikeymike's) instructions on installing.

I appreciate the "hold my hand" approach. This being my first install, I needed it. Awesome ROM. Love it. Is there a way to get some color in the settings menu by any chance? Would that be a theme? Just wondering. Super fast. Getting my apps back on there now and getting Launcher Pro going again. Great job!
