I just got my Fascinate last night and I can't seem to find an option to set a ringtone for a contact. Anyone know where I can find this?

If you are using a contact stored on the phone, select your contact, then edit. Scroll down a little and you'll see a spot where you can select a ring tone. If you are using Google contacts, which I'm sure you are, I believe you can like that phone contact with the Google contact. That should give you your custom tone. You would have to add a local contact for each Google contact you want a custom tone for, and link them accordingly.

Thanks Nick, that's a pain in the butt. I don't remember having to do that on my OG Droid.

i agree. anybody know if there is a better Contacts app out there so you don't need to mess with that BS? (im gonna start looking). Just like Gmail there should be a GContacts app. Calendar too: with the stock version you enter an event and you have to select your Google calendar, it otherwise defaults to your phone Calendar, and there is currently no way to make your Google Calendar the default.

You can long press the "jingle", choose Set As, Caller Ringtone, then choose the contact.

If you have a google entry and a phone entry, you might see an error. Just choose the phone section of that persons contact, and there ya go.

You can't do it if it's a google contact... The way to get around it is to export your contacts, then re-import them back in.

Contacts-Menu-More-Import/Export-Export then do the revers and import then file back in. This will make a local copy of the contact plus make a backup. Alternatively you can create a single "Phone" contact, then link it to the Google contact.

Thanks for all the help guys. I wound of creating a phone contact for the one person who gets a custom ringtone. I still thinks it's silly especially considering stock android has the capacity for it.

I use Ringdroid (its free in the market). After saving the ringtone you have the option to apply the ringtone to a google contact.

How do you get to the "jingle" to long press?

"Jingle" = the audio file. If its a song you have on your sd card go to it in your music player and long press on it. The menu will pop up. Same works in your gallery for setting photos for contacts too. If want to use a stock ringtone, or have ones you've made and put in a ringtones folder (like i do), choose "edit" on the contact then scroll down to ringtone.

I find it odd that Ringdroid can assign custom ringtones to google contacts. Wonder how it gets around it.
