Setting CPU/overclocking/underclocking question

I've noticed there are a number of different ways to do this. For instance, right now I'm running Codename Android with franco 15.1 nightly...codename android has set CPU settings integrated in the phone settings. Franco has its own app from the market, and there is also set CPU.

Are any one of these a "better" option? Is using the integrated ROM settings not enough?

I read in imoseyons kernel thread that they all work the same...just pick one and use only one.
I'm using the performance settings in aokp so I uninstalled setcpu. Most all the top roms nowadays have performance settings so no need for setcpu.

For the most part they are all the same but, there's always a but.

My advice is to use the app that comes with the kernel, if one exists, because it's sure to have all the settings needed to tweak the features the kernel supports.

For example, franco supports both the hotplug mod (spins down one CPU when the screen is off to save power) and Color Control tweaking to change the RGB color settings of the screen. While most applications that you use for overclocking and/or undervolting support the basic features needed to do that, they won't have features for controlling kernel specific features.

I do agree that you shouldn't use more than one.

EDIT: Also, the new version of the franco app, updated last night, lets you turn off and on the frano boot animation.

On that note...is anyone altering the RGB settings via the franco app? I'm hesitant to do so not knowing if there's an optimal setting to use.

I heard 4 0 3 was good. i've been using 4 0 5
honestly, i hardly notice any real difference either way :)

I think mine was set as a default to -4, 0, 5 (r, g, b) (yes, red was set to negative four)

Does this seem a little odd? I bumped red up to 1 and left the other values untouched.

Did that make it look better to you? Also was the change very noticeable?

I've been chicken to mess with that feature so far.

Yeah, adding more red definitely got rid of a "blueish" tint (it was faint) that I felt the screen had. I'm at 1, 0, 5 now and I think it's great. Is your red defaulting at -4?

There is no difference between apps when it comes to doing the same things. For example, if I wanted to change my governor to ondemand and overclock to 1.3GHz, the following is used:

Code:
echo ondemand > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor

echo 1300000 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq

It doesn't matter if you enter that manually in a terminal emulator app, use ADB while connected to your computer, use SetCPU or Franco's app. They all give your phone the same commands.

Well, if I go into my Franco app, there are no numbers in the ColorControl section (just 3 blanks), but the text does say that it's set to a defaulted -4, 0, 5. I'm not changing it right now because I love my screen as is.
