Android Central Question

I think I switched on some option in Settings to automatically clear memory when the screen is locked/sleeps.

I just tried listening to audiobooks, and they work fine when the screen is active, but a few seconds after the screen sleeps/auto-locks, the app pauses.

I've tried other audiobook player apps and I get the same behaviour, so I'm pretty sure it has something to do with how my phone handles these apps when the screen is locked.

Can anyone help?

Welcome to Android Central! Some manufacturers just design their firmware that way, in a misguided attempt to save battery. It can be infuriating. For example, the TCL Tab 8 that I got won't even let me listen to Spotify in the background -- the firmware kills it, even with Battery Optimization turned off, and all of their stupid "Smart Cleaner" options turned off.
