Setting Google Voice as default texting app

I'd like to do what I'm sure tons of others have done or want to do - use GV as my default texting app.

Here's the thing: I'm quite aware of how to do this (sort-of); I'm told to go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications, and then 'Clear Defaults' for the Messaging application.

Problem is - the default messaging application doesn't show up there. GV does, but not the default messaging app.

I assume that I might be able to get this to work by completely reloading/restoring to factory condition the phone; but would like to know if there's an alternative before I do that.

While in the "Manage Applications" list, you need to "Menu" - "Filter" - "All".

Thing is, I don't know if Google Voice will qualify as a potential "Texting/Messaging" app, since it does a bit more than that. Something like "Handcent SMS" would (and does), but hoping Voice does may be a bit of a stretch.

Why don't you just use the android keyboard has your texting keyboard. Hit the microphone icon and talk. It works in message app also. That's how I am replying to this thread
