Setting pictures for contacts

I'm having some trouble setting up pictures for contacts. I have taken a picture with the phone, and I have attempted to set it up as a picture for a contact 2 ways:

1. Tried using the "set as" feature in the gallery, but it constantly force closes ("the process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly")

2. Tried using the edit feature in contacts, but whenever I click on the blank picture icon, I get a "no pictures are available on the phone" message.

I've taken the pictures with the phone, so they are definitely there. Are pictures automatically saved to the SD card? If that's the issue, how can I get them to save to the phone?

That is strange. When I click on a picture in the "edit contacts" mode, it takes me to the gallery. What ROM are you using?

Stock I suppose. The only thing I've done to the phone is root it...haven't messed with any of those custom ROMs or anything.

Problem solved! I had accidentally frozen the gallery app that comes with the phone with Titanium Backup.
