Setting ringtones for calls AND texts

I've switched from an iPhone 4s to the Nexus 6 a month ago. I'm loving the android! I've noticed there are some challenges with setting ringtones for text messages from my contacts. I still can't figure how to do this. Am I missing something? Apple sure made it easy so I am wondering why android makes it so difficult for those that are new to the android world. Can anyone help?

Download Zedge. It's super simple from there. Just select tone and click set. It'll then as if you want to set as contact/ default etc.

Many 3rd party Messaging apps give you the option to set ringtones for specific contacts.
Go SMS Pro and Textra, for example, let you do this.
I do not use the stock messenger app.

I am using Textra at this moment in time.
It also allows you to have different signatures for each contact.
