Hello folks,
I have a new G4 on its way which should arrive at 2pm GMT, it got me thinking about the best way to set it up, after I have lovingly taken it out of the box and wiped the drool off and 'patiently' waited for it to charge, whats the best way to set up.

I was thinking of skipping the initial set up as much as possible, checking for any OTA android updates, then factory reset the phone before going through the wizard and using google to restore my apps etc.

How do you set up yours?

Jim

I'd set up my Google account and get all apps etc. downloaded on my phone. Then make some adjustments to my liking in the G4 and use it. You can use it immediately as modern batteries don't have memory. Don't worry about it you can use it straight away :) And congrats on this lovely device. It's beautiful.

There is no right or wrong way but I skip through everything, factory reset & then setup.

That is just my preference and not something that must be done.

Congrats & Enjoy your G4 :-)

I skip everything from the start, then factory reset, then do the set-up process.

Why? Dunno, might save one down the road after I set up, seems like a fresh start.

When I pick up my phone in-store (June 19 in Canada, yeah!) and they do the activation, can I then do a factory reset and not lose the activation?

Of course it'll keep the activation, at least that's my experience on sprint (CDMA network) and what I'd expect on vzw too. GSM like att and t-mobile use Sim cards for voice so the activation follows the Sim card.

Hey folks, just a quick question. I used to have a different MP3 set up for different contacts but I cant remember how it was done. Can anyone help me?
Other than that... freakin awesome phone.

Contacts > specific contact > edit > ringtone > select ringtone

Yep that brings up a list of stock ringtones. I even tried to move an mp3 into the ringtones folder but no joy.

Have you tried an app like ringtone maker to pick part of mp3 and save it as ringtone?

Personally speaking I would use the phone straight out of the box until it goes battery low for the 1st time and then charge it fully.

Kindly give us your first impressions, possible lag (hope not) and battery performance

Spent 4 hours setting up the way I want it and played couple of games and I still have 77% battery available. I love this phone but will take some getting used to. I am going to watch a movie later from Amazon instant so that should be a good test.

I have just had a call from 2 different people it took a good few seconds for the calls to connect. The first caller hung up it was so long. I got my friend to call me but its connected quicker.

Anyone else experience that?

When you get to the select ringtones page, you'll see the "+" in the upper right hand....then you should be able to select from the music files on your phone....
