So I just signed up for Google Voice and went the route of selecting a GV number, but for now I don't plan on giving it out or using it (figured between the two option, why not get the number when signing up in case I want to use it later).

I activated my account and all, but cannot figure now on the Incredible how when I receive a voice mail, how exactly is it accessed/viewed?

Do you have the Google voice app installed (i can't remember if it came installed with the phone or if you had to install it from the market)? Once you set up your Google voice number to ring at you cell phone you then need activate the voicemail option. When you do that all voicemail messages will go to the Google voice app.

Yes, just figured that out...it did not have the GV app already installed.

Now even if I don't plan to use the GV number I setup for now, do I still need to add it to my Verizon Friends and Family list as I noticed when I go into the Messages app, it list all of my incoming calls, but has my GV number reference (is that the data call usage?).

You do need to install the Google Voice app from the market but during the setup you can choose to have Google Voice handel all VM or let Google do it's VM and VZW do your regualr VM. If you choose to have each manage their own, you will get regualr VM notifications from VZ and the Google Voice will show up as new Gmail on the status bar.

Thanks! Does the GV number then need to be added to Verizon Friends and Family list so you do not use data minutes?

I would not think so since GV is using VOIP it should be like web browsing and use the 3g data channel. Friends and family is for regular calling.

EDIT - now that I think about it again, it's not standard VOIP is it, since it's effectively call forwarding to your number from the VOIP server. I would add it just to be safe.

Thanks, that is what I was thinking.

How about texting? How do I set up my Dinc to send text messages from my GV num?

Managed to install and configure GV. Now trying to figure out how to prevent messages from showing up in both the Voice app and Messages app.

When I go under the Messages app, for both All Messages and SMS/MMS, it shows the same information as is shown under the Voice app.

Again, I am not using my GV number. In GV, I have the Making Calls setting to Do Not Use GV to make any calls. Seems if this is turned on, it will then use my GV number as the caller ID on the receivers end.

Under Settings, Call, the Voicemail Service is set to GV.

Finally figured this out...thanks Examiner19.

Log into GV on your computer, Under Settings>Voice Setting>Voicemail & Text: Look at your Voicemail Notifications section and Text Forwarding section.
