My gf just got her incredible in the mail today. I was hoping for some tips on how I should set it up for her. What widgets to add, apps to download, Sense homepages to set up, etc.? Basically I want to know which settings to alter to give someone that's not a huge tech nerd the ability to maximize their usage of such an awesome device. She's coming from a BB curve and she only used BBM, google search, and email so she's got a nice bit to learn.

I'm using a Pre on Sprint so I have little experience with Adroid hence I'm soliciting advice. Personally, I can't wait to switch to the Evo this summer but for now playing with her phone, I mean setting it up, will have to do.

Thanks all!

(my background knowledge is reading the 200+ page user manual, the switching from BB to android thread and perusing this forum for the past 5 days to give everyone an idea of what advice would be helpful)

A lot of what you are asking for are already posted to the forum. Check out some of the topics and start reading.

Seriously, krelvinaz? I already posted that I read the entire from BB to android thread and the 200+ page manual and have been following alot of the forum for days yet you thought the most helpful response was to post start reading the forum. You deserve a Bill Engvall sign.

if those are the main things she uses, maybe the search widget, clock that she likes, the messaging widget and (if she doesn't use gmail) the email widget.

after that, i'd just show her what she can do, and let her set it up the way that makes the most sense to her...

Thanks, I think I'm more the type to want to jump in and do everything for her but she's smart and will definitely appreciate the feeling of setting it up in a way that she wants. Best advice I probably could have gotten.

I would say the Google Search widget, what ever clock she likes, the mail widget(which is pretty cool) and the message one. Possibly Pandora if she listens to music.

It will help her familiarize herself with the device I agree, Also their have been some people having battery power issues so I would definitely look into those forums. No matter how cool something is the biggest turn off anything could be is battery power running out prematurely.

Thanks guys. She uses GMail is there any need for the other mail app? Should I just remove it from the homescreens? It's confusing her since she doesn't have any other pop email accounts.

What QR code readers do you all use? Anyone use the Fios tv remote app? Those are the types of things I'm sure she would find useful. She's a bit overwhelmed by how to find apps right now since with 30,000 apps the marketplace is daunting.

If you're just using Gmail I assume a first step is removing the exchange mail app/icon on the sense homepage and removing that welcome to mail page. Do you just drag and drop these to the trash then add the gmail app on the first page?

Anyone want to list their scenes set up? (ie what do you have on the main page and other pages as far as widgets and apps)

Thanks!

I use both since I use Exchange for business mail. if you are not using any icon, you can press and hold it until it is selected and then drag it to the remove at the bottom of the page and it will be removed from the page.

Don't underestimate the ability of a "non-tech woman" to become "tech woman"... My wife was the same way, non-techie, then she got a BB Tour and insisted on doing things herself... Next thing I know she's telling her friend that she needs a network repeater in the house so the upstairs gets a good wireless signal and improve connectivity...

That's the great thing about this phone... You can customize the heck out of it, then erase everything and change it again until you get it just right. Definitely show her where to get apps, widgets, etc.... How to install and uninstall them, then set her loose! :)

Kinda wish I could set up my girlfriend's Incredible, but alas I have a wife.

I have (from left to right);
1. Favorites widget
2. Google Search widget, Facebook widget, and toggles for GPS, BT, and WiFi
3. Calendar (full month view)
4. Clock/Weather widget, icons for Gmail, Messages, Camera, Internet, Voice Search, Calc, Contacts and settings
5. Music widget (4x2), Pandora widget (1x4) and icons for FM Radio, YouTube, Photos
6. Bookmarks widget
7. Stocks widget (thinking of just bookmarking MyYahoo and making this screen for games icons.

Have fun!

I would recommend setting up Handcent SMS for her as well as it's a much nicer app for texting.

Unless you have something specific in mind the phone itself comes with several "scenes" (default home screen setups). Just pick the one that seems to have things she would use the most and go from there. Add and remove widgets that she may want. Only the two of you know what her tastes and usage habits are.

Menu > Scenes

I opened all stock scenes and got ideas from the different set ups and developed my own using the best (in my opinion) ideas from each. But you, and she, will discover this is always going to be a work in progress. I've read in other threads that task killers are not necessary on the Incredible so investigate this before installing one.

I haven't used it yet but Key Ring promises to be a helpful app. If your girlfriend likes to shop (duh) she will love Shop Savvy! She can scan barcodes while in a store and look up lower prices in local stores. (My wife is a bargain hunter and this app is AWESOME!)

So far, the most fun I have had with my Incredible is search and discover. Most of the fun is getting everything exactly the way I want it.

Don't forget Spare Parts...and change Transition Animations and Window Transitions to FAST. :)

....and a task killer ... I use Task Panel and love it...also, lastly try out helix launcher. ;)

yea... i wouldn't recommend giving a task killer to someone who probably won't spend the time to learn how to use it properly, if they use it at all.
