Got a Big software update this week on my S8+ as I am sure most of you did.
Got up this morning and I seen a blue light flashing showing somebody had called or sent me something. It showed I had got a email notice. Why I had Email and Gmail and all turned off on my phone.

Heard about eyephone owners complaining about this. And some of them thinking about leaving eyephone.

Went into notifications and they was all turned on. Why ?
And it downloaded over 50 app updates. Don't think I have 50 apps.

I spent time turning everything off. About everyday I delete Google Activity, History, Downloads. Go in Device maintenance and clear everything out. I delete where google tracks everywhere I do and delete it. I have all the emergency alerts turned off. Guess the President paid some on my phone cause I can not turn presidental alerts off.
I have the phone where it will ring and messages will show me when somebody text me.
I keep my location off in Google.
Know that everywhere i went all the stores was sending me email and wanting to send me stuff or do surveys. Why I don't shop there and they are not paying me. Anyway I don't care to do surveys.
Phone keeps up with too much that I do. I do not like it.
I do not get on any social media sights.
And do not understand why I can't totally get rid of Bixby. And Samsung pay without buying a program to get rid of it.
Don't get on any social Media sites. Do not like them. Everybody knows your business.

I think people should get together and for one year tell Samsung we are going to Boycott buying new Samsung phones because they don't give up control of what we paid for and suppose to own.

Where is my privacy at.

What do you think about all of this.

Do you really own your phone.
Why does updates change your settings.

Thanks

I noticed that after that software update I'm getting emails notifications again too. Oreo must have done something to them and they fixed it.
As for the rest, I appreciate what my phone can do for me. I wouldn't mind not having all the bloat ware, and could do without Bixby though

I have a Nokia 3310 laying around for ya. Should give some peace of mind lol.

Nah just kidding, I do have it, but for nostalgic reasons.
No escaping from big brother nowadays, welcome in george Orwell's future.

Unless someone is taking your phone and looking through it, there's no reason to do that. The information isn't being sent anywhere.

It doesn't "track everywhere you go", if you have Location enabled, it allows apps that you want to have your location get it.

No, that's a requirement. They're not allowed to turn that one off. Don't worry, Trump won't be tweeting you. But if there's a tornado or super-hurricane heading your way, I'm sure you'd want to know.

Then turn wifi and mobile data off.

Because they're system apps - they're "baked into" the system. But if you don't run them, they aren't doing anything.

You don't have to buy anything, you just have to root the phone.

But there's an easier way - if you don't want a smart phone (and you seem to be turning off everything that makes a phone smart), buy an old flip phone that has a phone, does text and email, and nothing else. (Location is still there - it's a legal requirement. If you call 911 then pass out, they can still find out where to send the ambulance.)

Don't get on any social Media sites. Do not like them.
In 45 years of being on ARPANET, UUNET and the internet, I've never used one. I don't like them either. But I'm not going to tell others not to.

No manufacturer does. Not even Google. The only phone you can get plainer than that is, as I said, an old feature phone.

Where is my privacy at.
Right in your phone. No one's spying on you. the features are there if you want to use them. If you don't, don't.

Why does updates change your settings.
They usually don't. Except when you get a new version of Android. Then some settings are no longer there, some new ones are, some change what they do or how they do it, so the old setting isn't what you really want (if "ring" becomes "don't ring", you don't want it set to Yes or No, the way it was - it will be the opposite of what you want.)

I really think you should get a feature phone. You really don't want all the "smart" stuff in a phone.

Don't want anybody or system making my phone go off because of a tornado or Hurricane.

Never asked for that kind of help thank you.

I'll need to correct one major thing that is absolutely indisputable and incorrect and you can verify it simply : The Google account that is used to setup and synchronize your data...The one where if you open Gmail it logs into or any other Google installed application hy by default...It certainly syncs with google via their services and is easily located which exact information is stored if you login to that Google account on any browser. Email, contacts, location history (how idle your car was while you stopped at a friends) Bookmarks, browsing history, etc. An easy way tp check without me giving hyperlinks is to login on Chrome, in the upper right hand corner there's a box you can click just directly left of your avatar which drops a list of Google applications.. or websites...As they actually are equally entitled to be labeled that in this case. Click the blue icon called my account
It will walk you through your privacy settings current and give options to permanently change yet see what was collected.
