When I use my phone for any length of conversation, my ear must make a bunch of changes, so when I disconnect, I have to reset the brightness, Bluetooth, date, and other settings. Is there some place I can set it so that the screen locks or something while a phone call is in progress?

Welcome to Android Central! When you're on a call and the phone is against your ear, does the screen go black? It's supposed to, which prevents your ear from pressing any buttons.

Some phones might have a setting, but in general, the proximity sensor should always make the screen sleep on a call when the phone is against your ear--otherwise, you'd always be pressing things with your ear. Your proximity sensor might be faulty.

Is there a way to fix that in the settings?
Open the Phone (aka Dialer) application, press the Menu button, select Call settings and be sure that 'Turn off screen during calls' is checked.

Is that specifically for the S3? It's interesting--I don't quite understand why any phone would have that setting, assuming it also had a proximity sensor. Why would anyone want the screen to stay on while on a non-speakerphone call?

I have a problem with my phone because I WOULD like the phone to stay lit on the touchpad...here u are on with your credit card company or any such call and they want you to enter something...all of a sudden where the hells my touchpad the screens gone dark. Oops i touched homekey in desperation now my calls still yapping at me but I'm on homescreen and cant get back to the touchpad...yeh I'm pissed. SO? How do you fix this cus I can't find a way.
