After having updated I can't find the settings icon. It's not in my list of apps. How can I find it?

Welcome to Android Central! What make and model of device do you have?

So you're saying that when you open the App Drawer (i.e., tap on the icon that looks like a grid of dots, often with a circle around it), Settings isn't there? You can usually also find the Settings button in the Quick Settings menu. If you have a phone, swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers. If you have a tablet, swipe down from the top right half of the screen with one finger.

They changed the icon under KitKat - gone is the familiar blue 3 slider icon, in with a dull looking grey gear icon.

Hi. I have Samsung Galaxy S4. I tried swiping down from the top, but the settings option isn't there.

I don't have a Samsung device, so I don't know if they decided not to put a Settings icon there. According to the manual, you have to go to the Applications screen and tap Settings there.
