Setup process stops working and retries

So i have a TF700t that i rooted but my mic wasn't working. i decided to wipe data and i was going to upgrade to 4.2.1 after i was done that, but after wiping the data it booted up to the setup process and after getting about half way through, a pop-up comes up saying that the setup has stopped working and all i can hit is ok and it goes back to the start of the setup. I have tried cold booting but that does nothing, i have tried recovery but after 30 seconds on the loading screen it goes to the android laying down open with a red triangle with an ! in it. I have tried wiping data again but it just continues with this restarting setup process and i'm starting to get aggravated. I picked up a Micro SD card so i can update to 4.2.1 through that process but without being able to look up the sku it seems impossible...

The serial on the tablet seems to be D1OKA3OR0655 but it doesn't seem to matter since i've been searching and i can't find anything to help.
I read somewhere that there are no O's in the S/N so they might be Q's but like i said, i don't think there is a way to find which build it is from the S/N.

I'm afraid i might have to ship it out to asus.
The Mic wasn't working anyways so maybe they'll just replace it but i'd rather get it running and upgraded to see if that helps.

I hope i didn't confuse anyone as it's hard to be descriptive about this but want help and the more info the better... next time i get this running, the SKU is getting wrote down and stored so i never have to worry about this again...

Thanks ahead for future responses :-\

Your SKU is fairly easy to guess, even if you cannot look it up.
If you bought the tablet in he US, the SKU is US.
If you bought it in Europe, it's WW.
If you bought it in Japan, it's JP.
The determining factor is for which market the tablet was manufactured and where you bought it.

Even if you load a WW firmware on a US tablet, it won't ruin anything. You may have trouble with WiFi since they use different channels, but the tablet should work anyway.

I do doubt that reflashing the firmware will fix your mike though .... Good luck.

So i downloaded the US firmware and put it on the micro SD but without being able to turn on the tablet and get passed the setup process i don't know how to boot from the SD. My tablet isn't unlocked or anything. Is there anyway to do this without the tablet being used? Like doing it through the computer or any of the options from the standard power/volume down screen?

Have you unzipped the downloaded firmware once (the result being another zip)? If not, do that first.
Then make a copy of that zip and rename it to EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip.
Put EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip on the microSD (which has to be formatted FAT32). Do not put the file into any folder, just into the root of the card.
Insert it, then boot into the bootloader (hold Power and Volume Down)
RCK should be flashing. Press Volume Up to boot into recovery. If you are lucky, the recovery will recognize the firmware file and start to flash it.

If that doesn't work you may be able to push the firmware through fastboot. But I would have to do research on that myself.
Try this first and let me know...

I unzipped the download but it wasn't another zip.. it was just a folder. i decided to rename it and try anyways but when i put it into recovery, after a few seconds of loading it went to the android laying down with the red ! over it again.

What was the exact name of the file you downloaded? The Asus firmware is always a zip inside a zip. And you did make sure to download the firmware with the correct SKU, right?

i can't actually figure out which SKU i have but i took your advice and downloaded the US version the file name is US_epad-user-10.6.1.14.8
I tried multiple times extracting it once with winrar and once with winzip, both giving me just a standard folder with a blob and meta inside. i have tried leaving the folder the same name and i tried using EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip with no luck. I downloaded the firmware right off of the Asus website for my specific model.
Should i try not unzipping at all since it is a zip to begin with and renaming it right off the bat?
My card is formatted to Fat32
No matter what i do it seems like my recovery process doesn't work though. i keep getting the android laying down with a red attention sign over it, whatever that means...

Ok, you have me somewhat confused here. I just downloaded the firmware file from Asus and it's name is: US_epaduser_10_6_1_14_8_UpdateLauncher.zip. I extract that once and then I get: US_epad-user-10.6.1.14.8.zip. That is the file you want to work with.

You never mentioned what firmware version you are coming from. What was installed before you wiped?
When you selected 'Wipe Data' from the bootloader menu, you wiped out your OS along with everything else.
The dropped Android with exclamation mark is your recovery not finding a valid update file.

My strategy in your place would be to get the system working again, then maybe upgrade to the latest firmware.
So download the firmware version you were on when this all started, try putting both the US_epad-user-10.6.1.x.x.zip and the same file renamed EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip on your microSD, insert it, boot into recovery.
Make sure, you have file extensions showing in Windows! If you have file ABCD.zip and it shows in Windows Explorer as ABCD, you then rename it XYWZ.zip, you may end up with a file ACTUALLY named XYWZ.zip.zip if Windows automatically adds the extension. The recovery will not see that file.....

If all that does not work, you can flash the system blob file in fastboot. You will have to get fastboot working on your Windows machine and use a command window to execute it. Let me know if you have the stomach for it - otherwise I can save my breath ;)

Alright, I figured out what my problem was. I decided to take the file that i downloaded and rename it to EP201_768_SDUPDATE and i put it on my SD card and booted into recovery and it worked. I kept unzipping my file that i put on my desktop and that was when i was getting a standard folder off of it. I didn't realize that my file on my desktop was already unzipped... i unzipped it when i put it there. I used the US version and everything seems to work fine except my mic, which is unfortunate but i'm glad i got this thing running. I might end up shipping this thing out anyways but thank you so much for your help. you have no idea how happy i am. sorry that it took me so long to figure out what i did wrong.

Thank you again for helping me, i'm glad we got this thing solved :)

Good! Glad you got it solved. :victory:
