Setup secure and erase on Samsung S8

[Android Central Question]

Hi,
I've been trying to setup secure and erase (Find Device) on my Samsung S8 phone but nothing I've tried works.
Can anyone help please?

Ok, so tell us what exactly you're trying to do with Find My Device. If the phone is logged into the same Google account, you should be able to remotely lock or wipe the phone using Find My Device (either on the website, or with the app on another device) without having to set anything else up.

Well when I go to the app, find my device it says I need to setup secure and erase but when I get it to send me a notification it either says failed or it does send it but when I click on it using the phone in question, nothing happens.

Are you using the app on another device, or on the S8 itself? I don't think you can use the Find My Device app to erase the device it's installed on -- it's for managing other devices. You should be able to use the Find My Device website easily on a computer: https://support.google.com/android/answer/6160491?hl=en

Sorry, I'm not sure about those steps because I've never used the app for that purpose (and I'd rather not risk accidentally wiping one of my devices while testing!). Is it important for you to use the app, or can you just use the website?
