SGS 3 - Have you replaced a broken screen?

I recently cracked the screen on my phone, just the glass, everything else works fine. I ordered the parts to replace it, and from watching the videos I'm confident I'll be able to replace the screen.

Now I've read a ton about people who have done it - but I have not found much about peoples results and happiness weeks, or months later.

So my question to the community is this - have you DIY'd your screen replacement? Are you happy with the results after time as passed? Does the screen still function as you'd expect? Any issues with image quality over time?

My big concern is that I still have 14 months left on my contract, and I guess I'd rather pony up the money now to have Samsung fix it instead of replacing the screen and over time hating the results of it.

Are you specifically asking if we replaced a s3 screen or any screen period? Well although I haven't replaced a s3 screen, I rebuilt a htc mytouch 4g and a iPad screen. Im happy with the results. Just make sure you take the phone apart carefully.

Re: Have you replaced a broken screen?

I cracked my screen on my GS3 after having it for 16 days! I still haven't fixed it yet luckily it is down the side and really hasn't bothered me all that much. Personally I will be taking mine in soon and just replacing it with my insurance.

Re: Have you replaced a broken screen?

If you try to do it your self take your time and be careful of the digitizer. Have read 5 different post on other forums where they damaged the digitizer and did not know til they booted up the phone. If they say it takes an hour take 2. Be careful.

Cracked IPS display...

hey guys,
I have a 4.5 inch android smartphone and i dropped it a couple of times and when it fell down last time, the ips display underneath the touch screen cracked near the ear piece. I called the service centre and said it'll cost a whooping 5000 INR. The phone costed me 10000 INR,so i dont want to shell out half of the cost of my phone for just a ips display..So can anyone help me how i can repair the display??????
THANK YOU

Re: Cracked IPS display...

I've done a few repairs myself and most of the time I don't find it very difficult. My wife recently cracked the upper edges of her S3 screen. This time around after watching some videos from pro's doing it for a living, I decided to pass. The heating process alone of the glass to loosen the glue makes me nervous because they stress if the digitizer gets too hot (which doesn't take much) it can be destroyed. As others have stated you won't know either until you boot up.

This is one situation where the repair cost with a warranty by the repair shop is well worth the money IMO.
