SGS3 won't connect to my Mac... Help please!

Found this on another website, and it's the first thing that actually worked (although I have no idea how or why). Plus, I didn't have to download any other software.

I was able to fix the problem by clearing data for the Settings Application (Settings>Application Manager>All>Settings>Clear data) and then setting the phone to connect with MTP instead of PTP. I can now connect to Android File Transfer without a problem. (The first time I had to manually open AFT, but now it pops up automatically)

Using a GlaxyS3 - DO NOT FOR WHATEVER REASON BUY SYNCMATE

SyncMate does not work at all on a GalaxyS3.

After stuffing around with other apps that don't work I downloaded the Free version, but it only allows you to transfer contacts - who cares, we want to transfer pics. But you have to pay for that. After stuffing around for weeks, I caved in and bought it for $35.

I connected, looked promising then the problems - it will only transfer some pictures - not all. I have 2000 pics, but it will only recognise 340 pics. And even the data says 840Mb worn of pics. So I thought ok, I restart - Nope docent work. I changed my settings on S3 to TP - Nope docent work. Changed it back - Nope docent work. Tried to delete and Android device off and tried to connect it as a MTP device - nope docent work or even recognise the device.

You pay for this crap yet it docent work at all.

The free software should put the limitation on - but don't put a limitation on the full paid version -

DO NOT GET SYNCMATE UNLESS YOU WANT TO WASTE YOUR MONEY

Support> Lol - their Help blog docent advise any help. Online help, closed. So of to the credit card company to get a refund on the tranaction

You have to reset your phone back to factory settings. It's the only way to get it to work with kies on Mac and Windows. It sucks but its worth it for the firmware update. Enjoy! I use backup pro to keep call logs and messages. Otherwise you shouldn't lose contacts calendars or apps.

I have the same problem on my MacBook Air with OSx 10.8.2. When I instead use my old MacBook with OSx 10.7.5 both Android File Transfer and Kies for Mac works perfectly fine.

I had the same problem when I tried to use Kies for mac for the first time. The phone didn't show up in Kies, as well as in android file transfer. nothing really worked, until I've uninstalled Kies with the uninstaller, that came with Kies dmg file.

hope this helps.

good luck

Whenever I connect my Samsung Note 2, Android File Transfer tells me that my phone's screen is locked when it isn't. Any ideas?

Don't know if this will work for you, but i was having the same problem and figured it out, that both Kies and Android file transfer can not be installed together. I uninstalled kies completely and now android file transfer works perfectly. I hope it works for you too.

Good Luck

I get this as well. the annoying thing is it did work then one day decided to not find the bloody device. I reset the galaxy which didnt help so i lost everything for nothing. I now transfer files on bluetooth. its a pain in the ***

I've tried using droid nas and have all permissions set up, including SD card - but when I Bonjour into my phone, it shows an 'sd card' which is actually my phone not the SD card itself! - any answers? Kies is SOOoooooooo slow

after 4 days and hours of trying and I finally had success by not using the android transfer. I used kies and I do have a mac, i backup one at time. first contacts, then after that finished I unchecked it and went down the list. I had to restart my computer and/or phone several times when doing the restore "one by one" but it worked. I had a charging issue with my phone and was sent another one. I am looking into going to a phone that does not take so much to back up and restore info.

I had the same problem. I found a solution on google. It told me samsung kies was actually causing the problem. I installed it and android file transfer started working and recognised my device. hope that helps someone.

Re: SGS3 won't connect to my Mac... Help please! (and Android File Transfer is installed, also

Nope, still doesn't work, it used to, but not anymore.
I've had "Android File Transfer" app installed btw since Dec (2013) it worked at first when I'd plug the Android in, but there was really only nearly "blind transferring", i.e.: I had over 1600 photos and since they only show up w/ generic icons w/ names, and were taken over many months on many occasions, I would have had to remember what the many dates in the names referred to. Or just drag them all, which I did in the end. Then tried to divide them into folders once visible on the mac, by date etc.

But, I got the brilliant idea to install Keis, whatever that stands for. It showed a lot about each photo, even had good size thumbnails, clear dates in a "Mo-Day- Year, time" format rather than what you see in Android File Transfer which shows names only like this, e.g.: 20130512-1834. That format is a little tough for me to get "May 12th, 6:34 pm" easily over 1600 times. You can see it on a solo entry like here, but it's not so clear in a tight list of 1657 items.

Only problem was, Kies destroys your dates when you transfer. Every event, meeting, party, evidence photo, etc. had the exact same creation time: the exact time they were all transferred.
I dumped the vfew I'd transferred with Kies and went back to organizing my multitude of pics into folders from the Android File Transfer drag.

And here's a bonus to Kies: since installing Kies, Android File Transfer stopped working. (Yahoo!?)
So I uninstalled Kies.
Still nothing works, except pulling the shell and then rubber protective case off the phone and disassembling the phone to remove the SD card and inserting it into and adaptor and that into a card reader, and? hey, I understand iPhones automatically upload your images to your PC or mac. Android is supposed to too. Haven't had that work yet either. And these are supposed to be as good as iPhones?

Ps: also, the:
>Setting> Developer options>USB debugging box wasn't checked, so I checked it and when that didn't work, I restarted the phone - no improvement, so i reinstalled Android File Transfer and restarted the Mac, no improvement, so I restarted them both. Still nothing.

(Anybody wanna buy this great Samsung Galaxy 3s? ...barely a year old, and all it does is make me want an apple product) Maybe that's the solution, buy an apple product. They've always worked before, and there's applecare if you have a question. This has been really frustration. Btw: a little over 50 min w/ T-Mobole tech support, then over 30 min w/ Samsung, then transferred to higher level, but I pooped out at about 11 min on hold, not that I can't do 2 hrs trying to diagnose how to get files from Android to a Mac (really), but it was pretty late, everyone was waiting to eat. I?, I think I should stop here, you all like these androids, I have experienced more than a few letdowns, and some pretty weird and unnecessary stuff (hassles) - w/ everything from google really

Hear, hear.

I don't know what a zx-80 is, or CM-0.001 (is that a version of android?) but I've heard of a 5s, that's the phone that replaced the popular iPhones: 4, 3,and etc. …and all those seemed to already work just fine themselves. I understand the iPhone 5's are the same just w/ an excessively super high quality camera and a cheaper option in plastic.

There is a nifty app from AirDroid.com that you instal on your android and your Mac or Windows PC. You can then transport files back and forth, and there are a number of other nice features, such as seeing incoming SMS messages on your computer screen while working. You can deal with these right there without going back to the phone.

android file transfer won't open my Camera folder on my SG3. It opens everything else. It won't let me even drag the camera folder onto my mac.
