i had been having some terrible battery life recently. this weekend i decided i had had enough and i backed up my phone and factory reset it.

the first day after the factory reset went great! my battery lasted all day and when i went to bed last night it was still at > 50% battery life. i plugged it in to the charger and went to bed.

i took it off this morning at 6:30, its now nearly 10:30 (4 hrs later) and i'm at 69% battery left. wtf!

the only change from yesterday to today is that there is an email notification on constantly (i leave an email unread throughout the day so that the phone doesn't vibrate every time i get an email)

gsam tells me that "android systems" and "kernel" are using the majority of my battery.

any ideas, suggestions, tips?

all of the apps on my phone i've had for a long time. i had downloaded a few prior to the battery draining issue and didn't redownload them after factory resetting my phone.

How about some more info. on what you've got your phone doing while you're "not using it" - for example, from your reference to email it sounds like you have some kind of data connection going all the time. Is this over-the-air or wifi? Anything else going on behind the scenes?

sorry. for the most part my phone sits on my desk all day. i do not have the wifi turned on.

today i am at 70% battery at 10:30. I probably unplugged at around 7. of the 30% battery that has been used android core apps has used 39% of it. it says:
wakeclock detail = *backup* 0.0s (1)
included packages = contacts
included processes = com.sec.android.provider.logsprovider
android.process.acore
com.android.contacts

What does the Battery section in Settings tell you is using the battery? For example, I took mine off the charger at 100% about 7 hrs. ago; right now it's at 79% charge, with Google Services accounting for 59% of the drain (that's Google location services, which I've left on because I'm trying out the Battery Guru app and it requires some form of location services), Screen accounting for 25% (32 mins. of screen time), Device idle 6%, Android OS 4%, Cell standby 3%, and Android System 2%. Other than fooling around with some settings about all I've actively done is play MP3s for about 45 mins. during my commute to work this morning and have data on briefly to check my email .

i took my phone off the charger 2 hours ago...its at 72% charge. :(

This time kernel took most of the battery...

Why do you choose to do this? Why not just disable the vibrate feature for incoming email?

because i want it to vibrate while im not at work.

when i leave the office for the day, i clear out the icon and then it alerts me when i get a new mail in the evening.

Why not post a screenshot of your battery page? I'm at 74% after almost 7 hours off charger and screen is my biggest battery sink-hole but then again my brightness is 100% all day every day.

When you're at your desk, how is the cell reception there?

I know when I'm at home on the weekends, my battery sometimes last for almost 2 full days, but when I'm at work during the week by battery drains REALLY fast because I can barely get a signal in my office. If, for example, I leave in the morning with the phone at 100%, by lunchtime it will already be below 50%...even if I'm not really using it for anything. Just curious if you're not seeing the same thing...?
