My brother-in-law has no idea how he would use a smartphone, but is considering one. I've been trying to think of android apps he can use to justify a smartphone and a $30/month data plan. These words describe him:
Shadetree mechanic, hunter, outdoorsman, handyman, home improvement, always on the go

Can you recommend any apps (with the price) beyond the obvious ones like GPS, maps that he might like?

Thanks ahead of time.

Torque app with a $30 Bluetooth OBDII scanner from eBay.

Great for reading and resetting car fault codes, plus a lot of fun for looking at all the car's sensors.

I would like to second Qubert's motion... it is GREAT for the shadetree mechanic!
An android phone is worth it just for google maps navigation, though.

That sounds like a good app for him. Thanks.

Any hunters out there that take their phone w/them while hunting? Got any useful hunting apps?
Or handyman home repair/construction apps?

They make cool GPS hiking apps that can track your distance and log your coordinates to review later and I think even give you local points of interest.
