Shake to Undo ?

Hi guys.

On the iPhone, you can shake the phone to Undo the last thing you did. This may sound silly, but I find it incredibly helpful if I accidentally delete text or delete an email message or whatever. How do you "Undo" on the Note 5?

The back button serves this purpose albeit with less prowess. Emails luckily are moved to trash so they can be quickly recovered. Text messages are generally deleted if u select it, choose delete, then hit the promt to ok the delete.

Yikes. I really make use of Undo. I have multiple email addresses and gets lots of email, and I *do* sometimes accidentally delete an email message by swiping too quickly. Shaking the phone is SO MUCH EASIER than backing out of that particular email address and going into trash, then waiting for the deleted message to appear, then moving it back to the inbox, then moving myself back to the inbox. And if I'm typing out a long message and accidentally delete a line or two while editing the message, a quick shake and the sentences are back. Without an Undo those sentences are history. That Undo feature is kind of a big deal. Who knew.

Gmail is nice I wish the S pen hover preview worked in gmail like in the stock email app. And i wish the stock email app could delete emails from notification like gmail :/. It's a lose / lose.

For me, I don't see the value in being able to hover and preview for email.

You can see who it's from, and there's a small preview built into the message list anyway.

I'm still having a hard time believing that Android doesn't have an Undo function. It's in Windows, Mac OS and iOS. Why is it not in Android??

I noticed last night the stock email app and gmail both have an on screen undo option for about 3 seconds after swiping away an email! How did i miss that?

Circling back on this--it really depends on what you mean by Undo, and I think I initially misunderstood what you were asking. I thought you were asking about being able to recover a block of text you might have just entered (like while composing an email or document), and then accidentally deleted that block of text.

As mentioned in this thread, there are ways to undo things like a deleted email and a deleted photo (as long as you're deleting it in the Google Photos app, which puts it into a Trash folder, much like the Recycle Bin--the stock Gallery app usually doesn't do this). For the Gmail app, any deleted email goes into the Trash folder, and stays there for a while, so it can be recovered for a while. For the stock Email app, though, the key is to make sure you're using the IMAP server of your email provider, not the POP3 server. IMAP syncs with your phone, so if you delete an email, it gets moved to the Trash folder on the email server, and is usually recoverable (just like with Gmail). But if you use POP3, the emails get physically downloaded to your phone (and usually get deleted automatically from the server). So if you delete the email from your phone, it's gone forever.

With all due respect, recovering something out of a trash folder is not the same thing as "Undo." It is so quick/easy/convenient to simply shake your phone and click on "Undo" to undo whatever mistake you might have made (be it text or email or whatever). I'm just very surprised to see that Android doesn't have an Undo. Every other OS and most software programs that I know of have Undo, so why not Android? That's all I'm saying.

But Windows doesn't have that kind of Undo--it's a Recycle Bin, just like a Trash folder. I understand what you're saying, and it certainly sounds like a convenient iOS function. But I wouldn't go as far as saying that every other OS has this same function.

gonna check xda, but seeing if anyone might know of one offhand? will update if answer is found there.

On android tablet you can use keyboard combination Ctrl+z to undon deleted text or typos, just like on Windows.
