Couple of things: I noticed the 'shuttersound: off' option finally showed up in the options.

I've found a can spot focus a lot better when I zoom for macro shots. I was struggling with this for a while, because I couldn't get as close as the S3 macro mode, but zooming seems to help.

Is there a 'fall' filter somewhere that I missed? the s3 had all sorts of scene modes that I can't find, at least in the built-in camera.

Are you bothered with your S5's lowlight capability? I'm! It's hard to tell that I'm using a Samsung S5 as it feels like my previous Samsung S3 is better. How do you get a great lowlight shot on S5?

There is a number of ways to improve low light performance on the S5.

The first major tweak is using Picture Stabilization.

The next one would be adjusting exposure and ISO settings to improve the image.

What needs to be said about low light performance with the S5 is that it is inherently restricted by hardware. The S5 has an individual pixel size of 1.12 which is quite small compared to other devices. This small pixel size limits the amount of light that reaches the sensor and as such low light capabilities suffer.

The ISOCELL sensor inside of the S5 vastly improves daylight performance but also has a negative effect on low light performance. The sensor doesn't deal well with high levels of ISO which results in grain in lower light. With that said, it doesn't mean all hope is lost, you are still able to capture some decent lowlight shots but they unfortunately aren't in the same class as the images produced by some other devices.

Thanks msavic6! Well worth of information! Do you think a fix in the upgrade will eventually improve S5's performance in lowlight conditions? I hope it can but I doubt.

Once the Lollipop update comes, we should notice an improvement due to the introduction of new camera API's which allow the phone to shoot in RAW format as well as improve the manual controls we have.

These software enhancements won't be able to make up for the downsides of the hardware though so the low light image quality of the S5 will still unfortunately be mediocre at best.

Bought my wife a Galaxy s5 on Swappa. So far I really like it. Here's a pic I took of some of my happy / funky socks.
