I find the diagonal placement fits my thumb arc nicely and means I can mostly get away with one handed use. I love the default background from KitKat, but find it is a little too heavy on detail which causes some blending issues for me with the icons - hence the blurring.

It is a screenshot; the blurring is intentional so that I can more easily differentiate between the background and home screen icons.
