Shipping soon?

The canned response of "nothing to share at this time" and the like is getting really old. Answering the same questions over and over again and not providing any new details is getting old. Understandably, you can't give us a hard ship date because you don't want to miss it, but you should be able to tell us what's actually going on. Based on those pictures I would assume that they're doing some sort of batch testing or initialization. Tell us how it's going. Tell us how the IP rating test is going and if you're making changes to hit a specific rating. Show us some sample pictures from the camera. All we've seen so far is some 360 video from the accessory camera and some photos from Niccolo De Masi that were probably a posting mistake or possibly not even taken with an Essential PH-1. Give us some numbers on how many reservations you've had. Just share some info. ANY info.

you could not really expected anything because of the holiday, I really think we will see or hear something by end of week.

Meh.. I am on the fence right now.. If I get the order email soon and if they offer something other than glossy I'll probably still buy it..

A few weeks from now regardless of a matte option or not, I'll probably pass and wait for the Pixel 2..

I'm still interested. But I will wait until I can go into SPRINT and hold one in my hand, play with it a while AND for when I can order it unlocked in the Ocean Depths or Stellar gray color. Gray will be matte and not a finger print magnet like the glossy black version. The Ocean Depths is just a flat out awesome cool and unique color so cool to have.

Well here we are July 5th still no updates on this phone, this is starting to turn into the turing phone that never saw the day of light outside of press shots and a few in the wild for testing. I remember doing that Kickstarter and had to be refunded when they kept moving the launch and shipping dates out. I see this going the same way, I haven't had any comms from them since the day it was launched or announced and they opened the site for reservations. I did that and its been silence since, all the signs are there that this is not going to happen specifically no comms from them on any level.

They've responded to a couple emails and some tweets that I've sent them. At least they responded, even if they couldn't really give any specific details.

They posted a picture today on Facebook and Twitter showing the guts of the 360 camera accessory. Seriously hoping we hear something by the end of the week, but I'm not going to go ballistic if I don't. Rubin said 30 days or so, he didn't give a hard date. It's also their first device launch. If I were them, I'd rather the thing be ready for primetime when it ships than be half-baked and have to deal with the backlash from a less than stellar launch. That would potentially be more catastrophic than a later than expected launch, in my eyes.

I'm trying to come back to Android from iOS and they're making it VERY difficult. This is the phone I really want but I also don't want to wait forever. And I don't want to buy something to just have this phone get released. I understand the delay, as I'd rather it be ready. But man I can't wait much longer.

You might have to. News over the last 24 hours tells us DELAY DELAY DELAY.

Sadly like all things they should have waited on announcing the phone until they were actually ready to ship out devices. Yes I am sure they are working day and night to get this device out but with almost zero news about the phone or company over the last 30 days what was the point in saying anything. My HTC one M9 can't hold a charge for longer than an hour or two so I am in need of a phone immediately. I was going to wait for the Pixel 2 but don't know if my phone will make it that long.

Announcing was fine. But saying they would ship in around 30 days was a huge error. "We will ship sometime this Summer" would have been fine.

I worry by the time it ships there will be a better device out already.....any news would be good news now? What would really be nice is for those of us that pre-ordered throw in the camera or charger or something.

I'm now pretty concerned on whether it will make it in time.

It's dead if it arrives much too late.

iphone 8, new pixel phones, new samsung note, etc will pretty much take up mindshare from the essential.
Well it's not like they were going to challenge any of those. The first release will appeal to few enthusisats and if it's a great phone it'll probably pick up steam later or in a generation or two based on good reviews, and word of mouth. They definitely are not worried about people choosing iPhone 8, Note 8 etc because essential is mostly looking to sell few million units at max. The main thing is to release a great phone without major issues and then improve it along the line. Target huge sales few years down the line after they build the brand.
