Short review of the iPhone 5, coming from the Razr Maxx

I've often considered switching to Apple. I've been through so many Android phones. Having issues with lag, crappy quality screens, and general frustration with lack of 'smoothness'. I've had a Nexus 7 & and iPad 3. The Nexus 7 had plenty of lag, the iPad didn't have much at all.

I'm now (extremely frustrated with the RAZR MAXX HD lag) considering a Note 2, iPhone 5 or waiting for the next iPhone release.

I'm a bit frustrated with the simultaneous voice/data issue on Verizon, the inability to set default apps and I'm not sure how it handles saving & opening email attachments. I'm a bit concerned about battery life and I find it a bit annoying there is no icons in the title bar to tell you there is something in the 'notification center'.

my OG EVO and G-Nex were fast, with crisp displays, and smooth as butter.

An odd thing happened yesterday at Radio Shack. An Atrix HD and RAZR M on display were both smoother, less laggy than a GS3 on display. I cleared things off the Task Switcher, I checked on animations in developer options, nothing seemed to work. I didnt reboot it tho. Coulda been a bad GS3. Who knows.

That lil experience could sway some ppl on the GS3 in that store. I say that because a pet peeve of mine is the "just works" thing I always see spoken about the iPhone. My kids mother has the 4, and between hers and a couple of co workers...I dont see it head n shoulders above most other high end Android phones. It had issues, no phone or OS in existence just works. If the iPhone just works, so does WP, Android BB, etc. I also see some ppl say "its so intuitive" That is up for debate. Just trying to set one up for the first time coming from Android and the old Win Mo..I found the iPhone less intuitive than both.

I also point out iPhone troubleshooting section in forums. If things just worked....those sections would be smaller.

I give the iPhone credit for smoothness and what I might call beautiful apps. Comparing the same app on the iPhone and my Android phone....it either looked better or had more functionality on the iPhone. Speedtest app and eTrade app are 2 examples, from 2011 - 2012 anyway. Speedtest looked better on the iPhone and eTrade looked better and was setup better IMO. For looks...its not like it was comparing an Atari 2600 to a PS3...but I would give the edge to the iPhone version. I also give WP credit for smoothness. I would rate WP over the iPhone and Android for that. WP would be 1, iPhone and Android would be close for 2nd and 3rd....That was in 2011, havent compared any recent iPhone, Android and WP lately.

And I never saw this iPhone/iOS section before. I think its a good idea.

Thank you for this post, Glad to see there's still people out there that aren't die hard for a freaking OS, I was gonna get the 5 because I thought it looked really nice apple does such a great job with hardware and optics and I use itunes so everything would've been perfect but more and more I doubt about switching over I just couldn't get over the fact that iOS is just so much more locked down than android and you can barely customize anything

nope. i like freedom out of the box. and widgets. and choice of hardware, display size, form factor, manufacturer, features, etc.

Fair enough but other people want a smartphone without setting anything up and having no issues, the iPhone does just that.

Hmmm Gingerbread and below were horrible although my N4 is fast

FYI Ihave made the best apps for iOS here so enjoy.

i disagree. my OG EVO with Froyo and Gingerbread was sweet, smooth, and fast. it is currently my backup phone and almost 3 years later it remains so. it was a marvel for its time.

Except the people using iPhones are not idiots, since my dad is a mortgage broker and I really don't think he is an idiot.

most mortgage brokers aren't that bright. but when i say idiot i'm referring to lack of tech savvy or lack of any interest in being tech savvy. it's hard to screw things up on an iPhone/iTunes.

Umm considering the fact he is the owner of the company and his company is listed as third overall in my country I don't think he has hired "idiots"
But yes it is difficult to mess up the iPhone(unless you are like me and jailbreak)

I made the switch from a s3 to a 4s. Honestly im happier. I hated the s3 so much. So many glitches, one of the worst phones ive ever had. All being samsungs in the first place.

What you will get out of ios over android is reliable apps. Thats because ios apps go through and are approved by apple. Android apps are mainly junk and dont go through a approval

I agree totally. I had a competition with my friend between his iPhone 5 and my razr Maxx. Keeping in mind my phone is 16 months older it still smoked it. We did things like from lock screen taking a picture as fast ass possible, web page stuff etc. I was truly amazed because I have put my phone through hell and it just keep being awesome! His iPhone 5 was only a few weeks old too. Amazing what android can do in my opinion I can't imagine switching. I don't care what other people do, they can make their own decisions and I can respect that... I just can't totally understand it. That said I have only had android phones for 3 years now so maybe someday I'll get tired of it too.
Best of luck to you and your iPhone

My most important factor is reliability. And iphones have that way over android

I expanded on the review, having spent more time to get familiar with the OS and hardware.
