How to get a shortcut to a setting on my homescreen?
It seems there's supposed to be a "settings shortcut" widget but I don't have that...

Settings should be located in your app drawer with everything else, just hold down on it and you should be able to drag it to your home screen like any other app.

I think you're referring to the shortcut to "settings" in general, which is indeed in my app drawer.

What I'm asking about is a widget called "settings shortcut" that can be configured for a specific shortcut.

I remember reading that widgets for specific settings were removed in some Samsung devices after Marshmallow. Not sure if that's your case. If you can't find the settings widget after you long press on the screen, then you could try using Nova launcher actions and activities.

Nova is awesome - the settings shortcuts are great, along with all of the other actionable gestures and shortcuts. Worth every penny x100.
