Should I buy this from my friend or wait for SG2?

My friend no longer wants his g2x, so I can purchase it from him for $360? But I'm not sure if I should wait for the SG2 since that is technically better... As of now, I'm using a blackberry bold 9700, been having the urge to get a better phone, and with the new iOS 5 coming this fall, I'm stuck as to choose which OS to play with..

The SG2 isn't coming to T-mobile in any form we're aware of.

If you're on the fence, I'd say wait. Android is always a great choice, and there are some great phones coming out on all the carriers in the near future. If you're curious about iOS5 and the next iPhone, though, there's no harm in waiting.

There's also no harm in buying the G2X and selling it if you don't like it.
I'm not bashing on iOS 5, but most of what it can do is already in android.

I hope that isn't going to be true cause the SG2 would be great for all carriers but since the merger talks are happening, maybe that's why no device listed for tmobile network.. I know that the g2x would definitely be a good upgrade from the blackberry bold 9700 with the touchscreen and the full web browsing. I'm not really sure if I want to step into the iOS world again since if I am still using tmobile, I would only get EDGE speeds.

There was rumors of something called the Hercules coming to t-mo.

Edge is terrible after you've experienced hspa+ or even regular 3G.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm pretty sure the browsing speed on the bold 9700 isn't as fast as it is on an android since the signal bounces sometimes. Using EDGE on iPhone would be really slow! I guess I should buy it since it is a good device for now, but what about all those light bleed issues I read about? And I wonder what happens when the device ends up with a problem, no way to exchange it right?

A LOT of LCD displays have some backlight bleed. Mine has SOME, but I'm not worried about it because it doesn't bother me.

Yes if you buy the phone outright you'd be outta luck if something happens to it. I think. Haven't had to personally deal with that, and I've only been with T-Mobile since November.

I don't suggest waiting for the GS2, but it would be prudent to wait for the G2x to be updated with the supposed big fix they have promised.

just found out i can do an early upgrade from tmobile for $279. but i brought one from ebay for about $351 after i missed out on my friend's deal. was that extra $72 worth it for not upgrading my contract. i seriously hope a kick-ass android will come out next year.

My guess is early next year we'll start to see quad core phones.

It's a guarantee that something awesome will come out next year.

Whether that's worth it or not is up to you.

if you're happy with stock stay stock. if you'd like to try different features and themes that aren't availible on stock then root and install custom rom. I would root in any case so you can remove unwantes bloatware and run necessary programs like titanium backup and rom manager.

Just got the phone today, thanks Droid800. It looks great and I just have to get use to a touchscreen phone now. Much bigger and taller than the bold 9700 I was using. BTW I still have the blackberry BIS data plan, is there any way I can set it up so I can use it for the G2x or I would have to call tmobile and ask them to switch me into an android data plan. I tried to set it up this morning, it shows the 4G symbol but no data goes in or out. The BIS data plan worked right away without any setup in the nexus one my brother owns.

You would have to get them to switch you to one of the regular data plans. If you can access your account online, you can do it there as well. (you just switch the device to a G2X and it will prompt saying that the blackberry data plan isn't compatible)

That's what I was afraid of because I have one of those grandfathered data bundle, $35 for unlimited data and messaging. So I'm wondering if I switched, would I get something similar? I'm guessing it would be troublesome for me to keep switched back and forth between android and the blackberry too, not really sure which one I want to stick with..
