Should I do a factory reset after 5.0 OTA update?

I would like to ask what some of you do/use to backup the stuff currently on your Nexus 5 before doing a factory reset? Obviously, I can just connect my phone to my computer via a USB cable and then save/move all of my pictures, music and downloaded files to my computer; but what about text message history, call history, and contacts? Can this be done directly via a Nexus 5 somehow? Or can this be done through your GMail account? Or is there an aftermarket app that can be used to backup text history, call history, and contacts? Is there even a way to completely backup/save the text message and call history from your phone to be added back to the phone after doing a factory reset?

It seems as though GMail/Google will/should add your contacts after signing in on the phone with your GMail login info. after doing a factory reset; but, even then, it seems like GMail doesn't always add every contact that had previously been added to the phone/Gmail account. So, I'm hoping there's a way to thoroughly backup pretty much everything currently on my phone.

Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies!

Don't bother if you think it will improve battery life which it won't unless you want to reconfigure all your apps again.

factory reset nexus 5 lollipop.....all the way through and now No command signal. then it starts up and goes right back to lollipop with all the same settings as if nothing happened.

Did you do it via settings menu? Try doing it via the hard keys in recovery mode. It might work.
