Yeah, I was pretty pissed at Motorola for that, too. And I still don't trust them. But I ended up getting the X anyway, because no one else was making a non-giant phone that runs Android 4.x and can be used for phone and data both in the US and overseas. I was planning on getting the S4 mini, and waited eagerly for Sprint to carry it, and was all set to make the purchase when I asked what bands it supported, and learned that it couldn't be used out of the country at all. (Sprint won't even unlock it.) I considered getting the unlocked European version, but even if I switched carriers so I could use it, it doesn't do fast data in the US, and I do mostly use the phone in the US. I sweated over it, but broke down and bought the d*** phone. I have to admit I am enjoying it, it has the best ergonomics of any phone I've used.
I don't resent HP. I hate the ***** president they had who destroyed Palm and nearly destroyed HP, but they did fire him. I don't know if HP will recover -- it seems unlikely -- but I wish them well.
