Should I get the G4? Nervous about the mixed reviews...

I'm coming from the Samsung GS4, and it still works, but it's gotten laggy and since my upgrade is in two weeks, I thought it was time to get something new.
I was going to go for the S6, but the battery life and sealed in battery and no sd card card made me weary. Then I heard about the G4 and all its glory with its battery, camera, and screen. But, with further research, I read reviews that had me worrying, especially with the Verizon variant. But, now that LG is having another promo, I feel like i should snatch one for myself and take advantage of the freebies. I was going to wait for the Note 5, but looking at the leaked info, the sealed battery and size just isnt for me.
-Is the lag really that bad?
-Are the screen sensitivity issues prominent?
-How's the screen in sunlight?
-Does the phone slow down over time? I read that the Snapdragon 808 doesn't make too much of a difference from the 810 in daily use, but a review I read said that the phone was great at first, but the performance declined within a month.
-How off is the battery calibration? I heard that the battery life looks great and lasts forever from 100%-90% but from there it starts decreasing a lot faster.
-How's the camera in daily use? The front facing camera? I like taking selfies, and I'm not a fan of the smoothing/noise reduction i see in the S6.
-How's the sound quality of headphones?
I know this sounds like nitpicking and me being a worry wart, but it's a phone I'll be stuck with for the next two years with the contract.

Please do tell me about anything else I should know about the G4!

Thanks so much

I'm happy with mine too. It was a great step up from my nexus 5. I'm very pleased.

Hello and welcome to AC! I have no problems with my G4 - and have used two versions that both had zero issues - the H815 and H811. In fact, it's a significant improvement over the G3, which I didn't think could be much better.

Most of your bullet points have been addressed in other threads, and I'll address a couple.
-The sound from the 3.5 jack is really good. I have a bunch of headphones and IEM's sot that's and important feature for me.
-Lag/sensitivity - not an issue in any way from my experience.

Another popular (and excellent) device is the Samsung S6. But like any other device there are always some unhappy users!

Good luck no matter which device you choose.

You basically get a 14 day trial period to see if the phone works for you. Personally, I love the phone. I came from the G3 and very happy with the improvements that LG made. The camera is phenomenal. I've done my tweaks and very happy with battery life. I skipped all other flagships last year she3et the G3 came out and I feel certain this phone will last until the G5.

Try it out. If you don't like it, return in under 14 days and go with something else.

I came from the Note 4 and love the G4. It is the Verizon variant and is very smooth with great battery life. I highly recommend it.

This year I have used OnePlus One, LG G3, HTC M9, Zenfone 2 (still have as my back up), Nexus 6, Moto G 2nd Gen, Galaxy S6 and LG G4..... I have only had the G4 for 3 days but so far it is the best of the bunch in my opinion and I plan to stick with it for a while!

You gotta remember that on these forums, people post problems they have and are looking for help. Not for praising the device. The G4 is an amazing phone , one of the best. Try it out

Lag isn't really a problem.

Touch screen isn't as good as the s6 or note 4. I definitely have touch screen problems on my Verizon version. It isn't terrible but certainly noticeable.

Screen is good in direct sunlight.

Performance is fine for me.

The battery has a 5-7% dead zone at the top where it will read 100 % for a while.

Camera is good but in low light motion shots , it can take several seconds to take a shot.

I came from iOS and I love this phone.

Anyone can find a problem with any phone. I don't like that I can't ask Google Now to read a text without me having to install a third party app. I love that this phone has a huge screen and is very light for its size. I love that it has expandable memory and a removable battery. The camera has exceeded my expectations - too well, actually. When I photograph jewelry I make with it, it shows if a jump ring hasn't quite closed all the way, and this is something miniscule that can't be seen by the human eye. I think I may lose business thanks to this wonderful camera. The manual settings on the camera have a huge learning curve. Except for the issue with reading texts, I love Android/Lollipop/LG UI. As for your concerns:

I have had zero issues with lag.

The touch sensitivity to me is minimal. I have the problem mostly with texting, and if I hold my phone so that the top of it is tilted away from me at a slight angle, I have almost zero problems.

I have no problems with the screen in direct sunlight.

I can't answer your questions about the processor. All I can say is again, the phone isn't lagging.

I'd say the battery calibration is a little off, but to me it's negligible. You're not going to have a screen saying you've got 85% battery when you've only got 5%, if that's what you're worried about. I'd say the discrepancy is what sswitzer is saying. I'm OCD about charging my battery when it goes below 50%, so I'm probably not the best person to answer your question. The phone does have a battery saver mode, and it will tell you when it activates that mode.

Headphone sound is good to me. I'm using my old iPhone headphones! LOL! I think the headphones themselves have as much to do with the sound quality as the phone itself. As for the external speakers, they sound great.

I've had mine for three weeks. The only way it's going back is if they pry it from my cold, dead hands. My carrier is AT&T, but I paid for my phone in full so I wouldn't have a contract. However, just like you, I plan on holding on to the phone for two years. Maybe more, if I can resist whatever flagship is out by then. :D

Have owned several of the flagships Verizon has to offer at this time (Turbo, S6, Note 4). Turbo & Note 4 were sold, S6 returned after less than a week. The G4 is staying :-)

It does everything well, & I haven't experienced any of the problems others are reporting about the Verizon version. That said, I understand your concerns... plenty of people are having issues of varying degrees.

The good news is, you have 14 days to put your next phone to the test before you have to commit. And you've researched to find the potential issues, so you'll be aware to look for signs of them.

In the early days of the G3, various negative comments in reviews and elsewhere made me hold back from buying the device. When after a few weeks I nevertheless went ahead and bought, all doubts vanished into thin air. The G4 is the same, except that this time round, I've learnt not to pay too much attention beforehand to the negative comments.
Both wonderful devices.

- It should be much better than your GS4
- I have no lag, if it's there it's not an issue with me
- Screen in sunlight is decent but to be honest I think all smartphones blow in the sunlight
- No idea about slowing down, never experienced it
- Battery takes a bit if work to come off of 100% but doesn't drop precipitously after that unless I'm really pushing the processor, then it's to be expected.
- Camera is premier, plenty of info about that all over the internet. No idea about front facing, not into selfies.
- Don't know about the headphones

Overall I really like the phone and I have the VZ variant. I'm not a power user but I get tons of battery life. After a few weeks with it, I'm not concerned about battery life...on to other things! However I do vacation in areas with LOUSY reception and my battery should work hard, but with the ability to bring another battery along it's still not a concern! Oh...did I mention the SD card? :)

Super trooper happy with my LG G4 H815....btw I was using a GS4 too and then a GS5.
LG G4 is just a great phone... You may face some issues in some aspects but this happens with all phones whatever you choose, right?
....I would say GO FOR IT

Good cross section of models for comparison!

I too am on Verizon and I can say that the G4 is the best phone I've had yet. Like you, I had the GS4 as my daily driver, until a week ago. I highly recommend anyone consider getting one.
