Is there any reason, advantage, that I should have a SIM card in my phone.? I don't think there's one in there now.

Huh? I'm using it on Verizon now. My phone says there's no SIM card in it. At least I think that's what it says

You have to have a SIM card if connecting to a carrier. Otherwise wifi would be the only way to get data services on it.

Back when I was on Sprint, none of my phones used SIM cards because Sprint was them primarily a CDMA network. Since the Pixels support CDMA, can they be used without a SIM on applicable networks?

I haven't given this much thought or research; just what pops into my head.

Back then it was different. Sprint phones even use SIM cards now.

I'm pretty sure phone's did have Sims, but back then they may have been built inside the phone, in order to call and test you need a sim card, look at the left side of your phone, there will be a tray with a hole, poke inside the hole and the tray will pop out and that's where your sim card is

As other members have said, the SIM card is only there to allow you to use a mobile network for sms, voice calling and for geo location.

However, there are many applications available today which can be used on Wi-Fi which allow for voice calling and instant messaging. Obviously Wi-Fi isn't everywhere and that's why a SIM card can becoming useful. 😃

I personally haven't had a SIM card in my phone for 2 months and I'm getting by but there have been occasions where I did need it.
