Should I jump ship?

I've been an android user for as long as I can remember. I currently have an LG G2. Thing is beyond laggy, quick charge no longer works since lollipop push as well as a host of other issues related to the push. I really like the S6 edge plus but am also considering an iPhone 6s Plus as well.

Here's the thing, I've read more positive than negative comments about the phone but am concerned that the S6 edge has a host of 'typical' android bugs, laggy, charge issues, etc. Does anyone else think that it's just a matter of time before the same happens to the plus as well? Or, perhaps, did they get it right with this phone?

Just trying to get honest opinions since regardless of which platform I go with, 850 bucks isn't exactly cheap.

If you're in the US I believe you can just "trial" the phone for a few days and return it if it's not to your liking. This is my fourth Samsung phone since the Galaxy S3 and I've never experienced the lag other people complained about, but I also am meticulous when it comes to closing off apps after I'm done using them. I've had minor glitches here and there which is typical for Android but my partner who uses the iPhone 6 plus has had the same on iOS. Sadly, both platforms are susceptible to bugs and glitches.

iOS undeniably runs smoother than Android, due to Apple's unified and streamlined approach to their software. In exchange for unification though you will not get even close to the same amount of customizability as Android. The Edge+ runs as smooth as anything but the overall feeling isn't as "unified". Apps have varying designs and animations and if you want to run the OS as minimalistic as possible (like iOS) then you need to be strict with app permissions. Thankfully, with the Edge+ you can control app permissions in the settings with simple toggles (just like Android M).

There are other aspects you should consider though and for that I'll quote one of my previous responses to someone who was struggling with the same decision:

Right now I'm using the Edge+ and my partner has the iPhone 6 plus. The 6S plus is not that much different, although heavier. Get the Edge+.

It is by far the best looking of the bunch, especially in Silver or Gold. This isn't even opinion it's just fact.

It's also a LOT lighter than the 6s plus. Like coming from the Note 4 (176g) to this (154g) it's very noticeable. There's a lot less wrist fatigue when using it one-handed, I can't imagine how bad the 6s plus would be at almost 200g.

Wireless charging and fast charging. Enough said. I don't even use fast-charging, I bought myself a couple of Tylt Vu wireless chargers. Look it up, unlike other wireless charging "pads", with this one it's a tilted phone stand, no hunting for the sweet spot. I just drop my Edge+ and it's charging, and with the tilted view I can see when my notifications pop up.

I know TouchWiz lag is all too well-known, but I personally have never experienced it. I've had the S3, Note 3, Note 4, and this guy but all I do is install Nova Launcher as soon as I get them and I go year to year without any UI lag. Not to mention that with the included Smart Manager out of the box, you can basically run the S6 edge+ like an iPhone. Choose and set which apps are allowed to run in the background and you can run a tight ship with your background processes just like iOS does.

Last but not least, better camera. Not to say that the 6s camera is bad, iPhones NEVER have bad cameras and for the longest time it was the king of easy-to-use yet great photos for phone cameras, but not anymore. The competition has caught up on shutter speed (the iPhone's main advantage) and are now just as fast when snapping photos but in some cases, produce superior results. This is exactly what the Edge+ has, a super speedy snapper with more dynamic range, better auto-HDR mode, more stable OIS in video recording, not to mention a lot more zoomability because of more megapixels.

The only areas the iPhone beats the Edge+ is standby battery, slow-motion video recording, OS updates and I guess the app store.

The Edge+ slimmer, lighter, and has an overall smaller footprint while having a bigger (not to mention higher resolution) screen. Android has more customizability, compatibility (wireless charging, Samsung pay) and versatility (Wi-fi hotspots, true NFC) than iOS. Unless you're heavily invested in Apple's ecosystem you will find it very hard to find good reasons to pick the 6s plus over the Edge+.

I'll leave you with a youtube video comparing the Edge+, 6s plus and G4 cameras. Notice how Samsung wins 3 out of 5 categories and yet (shamefully) the testers still declare there's no clear winner in the contest. But unless you're blind, the winner is obvious.

Good luck, in the end only you can decide which phone is right for you. Go with whatever feels right.

I had LG G2 (Verizon) and the screen got cracked few days ago so I went ahead and purchased s6 edge+ at full retail price.
It is worth to upgrade if you must have latest technology and unique looking phone specially the platinum gold. The camera is awesome, screen is impressive, fast charging ....etc. Other goodies could be important for some and not so for others. I have seen rare lags in TW specially when you have many home pages and widgets. Chrome lags but I think this is a ad and Chrome issue and not the phone. I have seen many users getting 5-6 hours batter life, I got 5.5 the first charge, but some are getting less than 4 and some more than 6.

If my phone wasn't broken I would have passed the upgrade and waited for the next LG and/or s7 edge+. The edge+ is better phone than LG G2 but I miss the on screen and back buttons. LG G2 got bad after the update to 5.11 as the charging became very slow and the battery does faster and the entire software became a little bit slow. My LG G2 is rooted and I use AdAway to get rid of ads of course TB to freeze bloatware and unneeded apps.

Of course this is my personal opinion but I do not think it is worth to upgrade yet especially if you will pay full retail price. I am taking my phone to fix it and if the cost is reasonable then I will fix it and use it couple of days and may return the Samsung.

Good luck.

1) Review from a real user of iPhone 6 Plus vs Note 5 = http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-note-5/590861-i-used-6sp-week-back-n5-now.html

You don't want that Apple Garbage, read the review and you'll know why.

2) Don't get the S6 edge+, it has an issue where it randomly lags when trying to unlock the screen, nothing happens, first I thought it was just me, then I've been reading this on these forums and XDA Forums

Get a Nexus 6P FTW

thanks for the info guys, it's been a real help. I was considering iOS but even after looking at their forums, people aren't too happy with the lagginess of iOS 9 apparently. I believe a fix is in the works but the phones need to allow a more individual user experience especially for the price point. Just my opinion though since 13 + million ppl seem to disagree with me on that one.

Anyway, pretty certain that I'll be going the way of the Note 5, I tried both again in the store and the Note just feels more natural to me.

You can't go wrong with a Note 5. I would have gotten that instead of my Edge+ if it was available in 64GB in Canada.

That being said, I love my sexy Edge+. :)

I've been in between smartphones and OS's every year, but my favorite I'll have to say were Samsung Galaxy 3 and the Note 2. These were pretty solid devices and lighter than most in their time. The last 2 years I'd been with iOS, until I decided to try Android again this week and is great to see how long has Google Android evolved from what it was 3 years ago. I went to my local carrier store and decided to try the cheapest and slowest of them all to measure against what the quality should be and is fair to say that I tried the ZTE Maven running Lollipop 5.1 and it really surprised me how well it did. Of course, the processor can't compare with premium devices, but I decided to use it for a week as my daily driver instead of the iPhone 6 Plus and it surprised me how well it did. It didn't freeze, screen responded quick when navigating around and Notifications never failed to work. I had all this issues with iOS and I'm no gamer, but I do depend on notifications and this little device worked great. I even found it more intuitive to use. I went and jumped ship and glad I did. Battery is an issue, but nothing that can't be solved with a battery pack to keep it charged.

Android is awesome,

Thanks Google.
