Should I just abandon the idea of a screen protector?

Had no intentions of upgrading my phone but couldn't pass up the $192 deal on the S7 edge from Best Buy yesterday. Now that I have the phone I'm starting to regret it. All I'm reading is how horrible it is to get a screen protector to work with this phone and how fragile the screen can be. Should I just not worry and just get a good case? Can anyone recommend a good case and screen protector combo that actually works? I prefer a black case. Starting to wonder if I should just pay the phone off and resell it.

Love the Edge's display yet vowed we'd never own a curved display mainly due to the challenges in getting a protector to work, a "must have" in my profession. But as things go I too bought the GS7 Edge due to a good deal, also playing a big role in the decision making was how my 18-month old GS7 has performed/held up (still my daily driver)... So much for NEVER LOL.

First off, if you opt for a screen protector make sure whatever brand purchased is labelled as "CASE FRIENDLY", a very important prerequisite. I went through several before we found one that met our expectations, and for me it turned out to be the "Klearlook [2 Pack HD Clear TPU]". The issue(s) found weren't so much case interference but rather, the protectors ability to adhere to the display's curved edges. One simple solution I used to help aid in the adhesion process was to use elastic bands and small strip of foam placed on display's curved edges, after letting sit for a few hours lifting was no longer a concern.

Just a side note... Tried a matte (fingerprint killer) tpu protector and absolutely loved it, more so than the HD clear. Problem again was its ability to properly adhere to edges, and brand choices appeared limited.

As for cases that worked w/above - have the OtterBox Commuter, UAG Feather-light Composite (my main), and the OBLIQ Flex Pro Premium PU - another area of note is the protectors alignment during install, the more precise the less chance the two will interfere.

After personally going through the trials and tribulations of installing a screen protector on the Edge, can honestly say this will be the last curved display we will ever own. And can only hope the conventional "flat" display's will continue to be around for years to come.

Anyhow, hope you find that happy medium that works for you and best of luck.

Thanks for your help. Honestly I think I'm just going to take the phone back. Not carrying around a phone worried the whole time about it. Found nothing but complaints about finding decent protection for this phone.

You're welcome. And yeah understand where you are coming from, we're always on "edge" using mine LOL... OK maybe not quite that bad but still needs a bit more care than most other handsets.

If you are concerned about having a few dings in youi Gorilla Glass, yeah maybe you should sell it. But if you don't care if you have a ding or two, or if you are technically proficient enough to replace the glass [not hard, costs about $35 last I checked], then live life dangerously, or get a wallet case with a flap if you feel you must.

Well, I got a Unicorn Beetle case and put on a Klearlook TPU screen protector. Both work well together but I can't stand the screen protector. TPU screen protector makes everything look grainy, especially the whites. Going to probably just buy a warranty and take the screen protector off.

I gave up on a protector months ago, so the lack of protection forced me to a Best Buy Tech21 Wallet Case. Does a good job..no scratches..but a tad awkward taking photos. I like the credit card slot, even tuck a bill in it too & leave purse at home. This phone's only drawback is 32GB storage limit. If they had designed the SD card to work as a partition instead of separate storage it woyld have been fine. I was forced to give up the best phone I would ever need, the 62GB Galaxy Note 7. The Note 8 may lack features I really care about, like headphone jack, so not waiting to upgrade, & really like the 7Edge. Good luck finding screen solution.

I give up. Tried a TPU screen protector and while it worked it made the screen all grainy. Bought an expensive Zagg glass screen protector because I saw a positive review on it YouTube. Well, the screen is not responsive and it clicked on the bottom of the screen when I touched it. Total fail. I finally just got a 3 year warranty on the phone from Square Trade. I'm just going to use my Unicorn Beatle case for now. Actually I am not sure if I am still going to continue using the S7 Edge. I may just save it for my daughter who will be going to college next year. I have a Moto Z Play and besides the better camera of the S7, I didn't notice much real world difference between the 2 phones. The Z Play is actually smoother.

Yes we can. I've tried a couple and they fit perfectly. And these were just no name items. But considering I live in a country in close proximity to China and all their factories, lol.

I am a little late to the conversation for the original poster, but to others that might be curious and looking, I have been using Armorsuit Military Shield. I had a S6 edge for 2 1/2 years and now the s7 edge. It works. You can even get one called case friendly which is a bit shorter around the edge and keeps it from lifting by the case.

I am just a customer, have no affiliation with them whatsoever.

I've gone through at least 15 or so screen protectors in the 10 months I've had my S7 edge, and every tempered glass one I've tried has the same issues:
1. Poor touch responsitivity, on the edges and especially when typing.
2. Poor quality adhesive allowing dust and lint buildup causing microscratches to appear on the screen.
3. Fragile; Break from the slightest amount of firm pressure during installation.
4. Ugly plastic-like appearance detracting from the screen quality and overall premium look of the phone.
All of these problems come from there not being full adhesive coating and an air gap instead. The only pros are the added protection and scratch resistance, but TPU plastic film does everything better imo.
Curved tempered glass screen protectors are rubbish and pricey right now.

Loved my Edge, but upgraded to 8+ for the 64GB. Used a notebook case on the 7, but hated the flap when taking photos. The 8+ is also has curved edge & bought a Defender case with no glass protector..but it has curved up ends, so seems OK. It is Gorilla Glass on these Samsung phones, so not too worried.
