Should I order it?

Hey guy's, I've been using a Samsung infuse for the past year - year and a half. Worse phone I've ever owned and I just cannot wait another few months(August) until I can upgrade at AT&T.

My brother bought a Nexus 4 last week, got it activated Saturday and Sunday night it fell off his coffee table and completely shattered the screen. A 22" fall on concrete flooring. The screen no longer responds to touch, making it pretty much useless. Out of curiosity I put my phone on the same coffee table, and pushed it off 5-6 times. The worse thing to happen was the back battery cover popping off one time. The worst part is he purchased a set of cases for it before the phone even got here, unfortunately USPS and their "expedited shipping" didn't work out very well.. The case was about 45 minutes away on Saturday and will more than likely show up today(Monday) just adding insult to injury lol.

Which leaves me with two questions: How much is it to replace the screen through LG?

Is the phone worth the money? It's obviously the cheapest alternative when it comes to an unlocked phone. For the HTC One X+ I'd pay $550 which is what I'm going to pay for most other phones, but a completely shattered screen from 22"? That really makes me hesitate.

Depending on how it hits, any phone screen can shatter from 22 inches even with a case on. I do worry about the back glass though as there are so many threads on cracking the back glass. I got a SGP dual, which has screen protectors for the front and back glass and I use a case...the acase superleggera pro which is only about $15 on Amazon.

Not sure how much to replace the screen although I heard the back glass is like $70 to get fixed from LG.

The phone is definitely worth the money. You won't find a more powerful, unlocked, contract-free device for the price without going to China. As for the durability, it's glass. Treat it as such and you'll be fine. I've had mine for four months now (no case, only a back protector) and it doesn't have a scratch on either side. If you tend to drop phones a lot, get a rugged case. That goes for any phone, really. As planoman said, any phone's screen (outside of MilSpec) can shatter if they land wrong from that height.

My guess is it landed perfectly on the screen on maybe a slightly raised area of the floor because all the cracks come from one centralized area on the screen, the back glass ironically is unblemished. I think the tough part is that it was less than a week old and had USPS gotten the case here, it would have been a non-issue. My brother just has had terrible luck with his last two phones. The first was a Note 2, it actually cracked from flexing in his pocket after about 3-4 months.

I'll probably still order the Nexus 4, like you guys said you just cannot find a phone like that for the price. I mean, I could hold out a little longer and get the discount from AT&T and pay $100 for the One X+ or S3 but another month with this Infuse and I'm likely to lose my mind lol! Thanks for the feedback!

Waiting on mine to be delivered now. I used both an iPhone 4 and 4S so the glass doesn't bother me. I put a screen protector on it and then what happens will happen LOL.

Got mine today and been playing with it for the past few hours. Still tweaking my settings. I rooted and unlocked out the box. About to head over to XDA to look for a good kernel. So far, so good.
