Should I Root?

If this needs to be moved to the development section, please feel free to do so.

Ok, so the only time I have rooted was with my Droid Eris, once with the straight to phone commands and another with the one click app on the market.

I been on the fence with rooting my Thunderbolt but I'm kinda scared, I dont know if its a lot more harder to root, with all the command,s or which way I should go about on doing so. Should I use the auto root or manual root? Should I just wait for the stock gingerbread update and see how I like it? What is the best Sense 3.0 rom to use? This is the main reason I want to root but I want a very stable rom with at least all main functions working right.Should I take anything else into consideration?

Please any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

it doesn't appear that sense 3.0 will be hitting the thunderbolt so if that's your main reason for rooting then i would say go for it. The auto root is just a few scripts that run the commands you would normally type in manually. Either way its not a one click solution and there is always some degree of risk. But I would recommend the autoroot, its simpler with less room for error. If you can follow instructions you shouldn't have a problem with either option as the hard work was already done by those who wrote the guides. As for which ROM, Das BAMF is my favorite and I would absolutely recommend it as I've always had good experience with these ROMS. As far as I know and I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but the official Gingerbread will have some flavor of sense 3.0 but will not be sense 3.0 as that's being saved for future more powerful devices. So again, if you really want sense 3.0, ROOT it!

Thank you, very informative. Yeah on the official gb OTA, I'm guessing the sense will be the dinc 2 version but I really hope the "view 4G" will be packed into our sense. Thats the version of sense I been hoping they would pack. Like a lite version of sense 3.0

I have used the auto root process 3 times now and each time work perfectly without any issues and all I did was read and follow the directions 100%. Only do this if you feel comfortable that you can follow the directions too. If you do decide to root we have a great group of hackers that would be glad to answer any of your question in the hacks section.

BAMF has a few different Roms out with 3.0 Sense including the new one that came out last night along with a couple other ones and IMO they are the best and seem to be the favorite among others.

I think the word is that we are getting sense 2.1 that should incorporate the 3.0 features the bolt can handle..this is all speculation at this point though.

good luck/

Yes. It's... it's... AMAZING! Gingerbread, Sense 3.0, Netflix, options out the booty, like 20+roms etc... etc... what's not to love. :)

Well hell I guess I can even unroot if I feel I wanna try the stock again. I'm gonna give rooting a whirl. I'll let everyone know what my thoughts are on it when I'm done.

Good luck man (not that you need it) and ask questions in the rooting section if you are unsure about anything. The guys up there are awesome! :)

+1 on devs....I did the manual root, and as long as you follow directions you will be fine. Das BAMF REMIXES are my fav GB Roms.

Not to be insensitive but this should really be in the root thread. Are you trying auto root or manual root?
I rooted on a mac so ii'm not exactly sure how you do it on a pc.
Post your question in the root thread you're trying to use, i think you'll get better answers over there.

this is the root-roms-hacks section, I mean the stickied rooting threads up top -
http://forum.androidcentral.com/thu...unroot-windows-updated-5-20-w-mr1-update.html
Post the question in there, and you'll have a better chance of getting the right help.
You could also do an advanced search in the auto-root thread and see if the problem has been solved for other people already - not sure what kind of keywords you would search with tho.
