I use my smartphone for my contracting business and it is my only device . I dont even use a computer hardly. So I have a note 2 and love the size of the screen but the size of the overall phone itself is getting old to lug around. I was all set to get the Nexus 5 but started looking at the G2. I am really liking some of the features on this phone like the double tap feature and quik notes/camara from the rear buttons. The one that I really love is the bigger screen with a smaller overall frame. Not too fond of the back ..reminds me of my old Atrix 4g.lol but I'd cover it. So what im worried about is the problems with the AT&T version I just briefly read about. So what is the carrier IQ? And why do I need to turn it off? Also did Att ruin the phone with their software or something? I dont root my phones and would need this thing to work like a charm for my company without slowing down. Please give it to me straight before I buy. Thanks

Sounds like there are a few issue, I hope they are only teething pains. I don't think you will find a phone without any issue. If you can, I would wait to see what the next firmware fixes. I have heard of the following issues

spastic screen
GPS issues
some battery issues (looks like CIQ related but it can be managed)

if you do get the phone let us know what your thoughts are

I am in the "same boat" as the OP. I currently have the S3, but am looking at getting either the Nexus 5 or LG G2. I think that the LG G2 is better for me because of the bigger battery, bigger screen, and better camera. However, it appears as if no AT&T store has the LG G2 in stock anymore, and the Carrier IQ battery problem seems to be a big problem causing battery issues.
Any thoughts from anyone that has the LG G2 would be greatly appreciated.

I have an AT&T version and:
#1. Never had an issue w/ my screen. It looks and responds amazingly.
#2. Haven't had any GPS issues when I was using the stock ROM, and definitely none using other ROM's
#3. CIQ can cause a little battery drain, but like most devices you can minimize excess drain by turning off certain location features, etc, to not "build" on the CIQ drain. If you're technically proficient you can ROOT / ROM the LG G2 so you can put on a ROM w/o carrier CIQ if you want. Also if you just Root it you can use an app to disable CIQ which will prevent it from running. Then an app called Greenify is great to prevent apps from trying to wake your phone (which isn't carrier dependent... it's the app, but you can prevent it from running when you're not using it).

I get amazing battery life w/ my G2 but I do admit that I'm not running hte stock ROM as one of the big reasons I like the phone is the awesome hardware combined w/ the fact it can be loaded w/ custom ROM's.

I appreciate the quick response, but no "root" for me (OP also states that he doesn't want to "root" either).

Thats correct thanks. I dont want to root . Need the device to be running 100% out of the box

I switched from iPhone and love it. There can be some spastic screen issues, but I see that and a camera issue with moving objects to be software issues that will be corrected.
Great phone....get it

I am on the same boat as some of the posters here, and I had a topic on this, but it seems it didn't get much attention
http://forums.androidcentral.com/t-lg-g2/329856-what-some-common-complaints-g2.html

I am not terribly concerned about CarrierIQ, no matter where we go there will be some sort of collection of data, pretty much, but it's nice to see that it can be turned off by rooting, and as far as I know G2 does not have any kind of flags, so if there are issues you can restore back to stock rom and return/replace/serviced if needed (correct me if I am wrong).

I was more concerned about these:
LG G2 Touch Screen Issues - YouTube
T-Mobile LG G2 touch screen issues again part 1 - YouTube
LG G2 (D802) touch screen problem 2nd (터치 불량) 2013-09-12 - YouTube

Also GPS issue mentioned in few reviews, but since this is not my main GPS unit, it should be OK.

Just one more thing, on the drop test G2 failed on first drop, corner drop, while most devices do well on corner drop but fail miserably on face down drop test, I believe this is mainly due to unibody design, not absorbing the impact well, and of course screen being so close to edges. Has anyone dropped theirs and survived it? I am really not too keen on getting screen protectors or cases, unless case is completely bumper-like and thin.

I think 32GB storage and 3000mAh battery should help with lack of removable battery or storage card (too bad Koreans got both and we do not...)

The G2 does have a rooted flag, but there are steps on XDA to go back to the stock image completely and that will revert it back to non-rooted flagged.

It's pretty standard stuff, honestly. I had an issue where I forgot to backup my current setup before attempting to load a new ROM and it failed so I needed a way to get back. Went through the process with the flash tool and it restored back to stock and I did verify the flag shows non-rooted once reflashed.

May as well be talking chinese honestly. This is why I don't want to root. Im a contractor not a tech guy. It seems like there are too many bugs at this point. I have made the decision to look elsewhere. Ashame really like the phone.

As for the problems, I don't think Carrier IQ is a problem, everyone who tested the phone battery life, picture quality, and benchmarks had it running (non of them were rooted as per reports) so it should not be an issue. Like you I am only worried about the screen problems, rest should not be a too bothersome, and honestly while Note 3 is an awesome device with all the pluses of every other device out there, the build quality is actually a big concern, and at that price, I would expect something much better feeling on hand. Even that fake leather stitching is a huge turn off in my opinion. Just make it plain textured back, that should have been fine. Are there any back covers we can get for Note 3?
Size of Note 3 is OK for some people, and those who think it's too big can easily just go with GS4, it has almost all of the S Pen features without a pen (finger hover works well) except the air command software, but once again lacks the build quality (I wish there were no hard buttons), the memory and battery is really good selling points on S4, but the display quality seems to be far better with G2 (smaller pixels and a totally different technology) I assume G2 has a much better direct sunlight performance because as far as I can tell, my current G2 Escape works very well under direct sunlight, not sure if it is my Grease-Proof screen protector or not.

Question to those with G2, did you get a screen protector? People complained it doesn't fit properly due to curved glass and since there is no "Frame" to hold it in place, unless you go with $25 screen protector and willing to spray your device with mystery liquid.

I have been trying to find an AT&T store that has the G2 to actually give it a try, but all stores shows that they are out of stock. :(

Thanks for the advise. I just checked and Best Buy does have them. I prefer buying at the ATT store as I am looking for an early upgrade and I've had better luck doing this in person.
I think I'll check out Best Buy tomorrow and see what they can do.

(I'm still curious as to why no ATT stores have any in stock.)

Update: I just got ATT to waive the upgrade fee and they are shipping me the device.
Hopefully the G2 will do everything that my S3 did and more.

If I don't change anything except stop Carrier IQ, I can go from and idle drain around 0.2% per hour to an idle drain between 2.0-5.0% per hour (yes, varies a lot).
It makes a difference on my phone.

Oh and I love me some Google Now, so the only location setting I have OFF is Location Reporting. Everything else is ON. Even with that, if I disable Carrier IQ, like I said, I idle at about 0.2% per hour. Location settings are not killing the battery.

That being said, I believe it also has to do with the mix of apps each of us is running. Other than Google Now, I don't have any other apps that really want my location running in the background. That's probably why my battery life is great with Location settings on while other people are having greater battery loss if they leave it on.

There's no one perfect solution to all our battery issues, but we cannot just dismiss something as being the cause. All we can do is try and maximize it given the way each of us use our phones.

Same here! AT&T is waiving the upgrade fee and I will be negotiating to see if I can get it cheaper than $79. Maybe I can push for $50?
Did you get it yet? How is it working so far?

All I can say is that the G2 is a great device. I've mentioned this in another thread, but it's hard to believe that this device is so cheap on contract with AT&T. It's a phenomenal phone that is certainly worth a lot more than what AT&T is charging for it!
