should I trade my v20 for the note 8?

Samsung would have no idea what exact phone people got to replace their Note 7.
So Samsung is going to give $425 credit on a used iPhone 5 as a mea Culpa on the Note 7 and not even check with your carrier to see if that's the phone you used to replace the Note 7? Wow.. ok

I got the v20 after the Note 7 disaster and have kept it since. I'm switching to the Note 8 now but passing the v20 on to my son to upgrade his iPhone 5s.

I also have the v20 and am considering my upgrade options for the new year. In addition to the Note 8, I'm also considering the S8 plus and v30 even though I'm not crazy about some of the changes from the v20

The V20 is holding value as last flagship with exchangeable battery.
Many like myself have to have a phone with a replaceable battery.
The Note 8 and V30 are nice but not worth giving up ability to swap battery.

This is where you are wrong. Samsung is not giving you the credit as a "mea Culpa" as you state. They couldn't care less what phone you are using. The requirements do not state you must trade in a phone that "is currently being used". Theres no way for them to track what phone you replaced your note 7 with. Many people sent the phone back and got a refund and went off and bought whatever they wanted. This is samsungs way of rewarding loyal customers who had to endure that Note 7 mess by giving them a little more money for their trade in as an apology for the note 7 drama.

well I found out you have to have the v20 paid off to do it and I have a little over a year left so that squash's that deal completely

The only thing I am going to miss is the DAC. The swappable battery and second screen were initially appealing but things that I never ended up using.

You can still pay off the V20 and then trade it in, assuming you have the funds to pay it off. That was my plan, but if the deal is only through samsung and not the carriers, I'm not sure if I will take advantage.

I don't have the funds unfortunately.

maybe the carriers will have some sort of deal at some point?
