Should my S6 Hangout dialer calls count against my minutes?

S6 Hangout Dialer Calls Count Against My Minutes

I've just downloaded and used the Hangout Dialer on my S6 through Verizon to save my minutes.

However, I just noticed that these calls are counting against my minutes, but shouldn't be.

Any ideas on this?

Everything I read says that the Hangouts dialer is only over Wifi or your mobile data connection. It says nothing about accessing your phone and using your minutes.

The other possibility here is this: Verizon is sniffing out the Hangouts dialer sessions when on your mobile data connection and counting them against your minutes. I wouldn't put it past them to do that. When you see these show up, are you on your mobile connection or WiFi?

I believe I was using my mobile connection. I'll try it wifi when i get home from work.

And I agree - Verizon might still be trapping those minutes.

Three modes to check... a) everything on, connected mobile, b) everything on, connected wifi c) airplane mode enabled, wifi turned back on

Let us know, I am curious... if they are somehow monitoring for this kind of traffic like that... that's pretty lame.

That'd be funny. On the other hand, it might also provide QoS on their network, in which case I wouldn't be overly bothered by it. In fact, if it is counting against minutes instead of data, it would be beneficial to the vast majority of their customers.

Now it all makes sense to me... Whenever I get a GV call, it gets routed to my default dialer and I ha E to answer it using Samsung dialer... Hmm, I wonder if Google or verizon had a hand in this

Okay, I tried it on my wifi in my house. My call ended about 15 minutes and so far it's not showing up as usage in my Verizon wireless page or in my dialer.

So far, anyway.

It shouldn't count against your minutes. I have used it since I have a tiered minutes plan too.

Update: I made 4 calls last night on my wifi, and one went against my minutes.

I have no idea what's going on.
