My sister is switching from sprint to Verizon and needs a phone now. They only have the MOt Droid in stock, no Inc or Droid X until at least a month. I have never had a Droid but have owned the Eris and currently have the Incredible. I feel she will be fine with the Droid as it has 2.1 and is scheduled to get 2.2 soon. Any help?

Thanks

personally i would wait. the x is a sick phone. that being said the droid is amazing and im not giving mine up for an x. if i was making a purchase like she is right now tho, i would wait for the x.

I agree w alphabets. The Droid X is one sweet phone but I too wouldn't give up my Moto Droid! In your sister's case if she can wait a month then why not? Also does she want a physical keyboard? That's a deal breaker for me! I tried the touchscreen only and well I gotta have my keyboard!

Yea,if she feels more comfortable by at least having the option of a physical keyboard go with the Droid. I wish we could give you some more details about the Droid2. :(

The Droid is running 8 month old hardware but I still think it's the best all-around android smartphone that Verizon offers. Good battery life, great screen, and the convenience of a slide-out keyboard. The keyboard isn't the greatest and takes some time to get used to but it isn't too bad after a while. If she needs a phone now, the Droid is the way to go. And if you're willing to get your hands dirty and root, she likely won't even notice a difference between it and the Droid 2 once it's released in a couple months.

Thanks we are going to the Verizon store today. I am going to try and talk her into only getting a one year contact and then she can get a new phone next summer. Like I said I have the incredible and I too would not trade it for the x, the x looks too big.

Just an FYI. If your sister chooses a calling plan of $49.99 or higher (that's the calling plan only and does not include any additional things such as the data plan or text plan and may be $59.99+ now, not sure if they changed the details) and signs a 2 year contract she will still be eligible for an upgrade after 12 months. It's called an early upgrade. She'll be able to purchase a new phone at the new customer pricing (like an upgrade) but there are no additional discounts and has a $20 processing fee. If you sign a one year contract like you stated the Droid's pricing will be a bit higher. If she waits the full 20 months (they allow you to upgrade 4 months earlier than the full 2 years) on the $49.99+ calling plan then she will receive an additional $100 off the new customer price of the phone. Anything below $49.99 price plan is no early upgrade and only a $50 new every two credit on top of the discounted price of the phone (also only $50 with a one year contract). If you've already signed a one year contract just return to the store and sign a 2 year, they'll refund the difference in the price of the phone. Sorry for the long message, just wanted to give as much detail as I could, LOL. I use to take Verizon Wireless customer service calls.

The NE2 has changed to 30/50 now. Believe it dropped early last year sometime.

I just upgraded with my NE2 in November of 2009 and still received an additional $100 off with my NE2. I may be grandfathered into it. IDK.

It's for renewals after February 09. So when you go to renew again, you'll only get $50 off.

Hey she went ahead and got the Moto Droid and went with the 900 minutes and unlimited data. What a sweet phone, honestly I was not a fan of the Moto Droid, just from what I had heard and read about the keyboard. For a phone that is 8 Months in it life cycle it is just "sweet". I can't wait to see what it will be like when she gets 2.2 on it........

Thanks everyone

You're lucky your sister isn't that picky. My sister rather not get the Droid because of "how heavy it is." She's probably going to end up getting some crappy LG phone at this rate.

It is a solid phone, ChuckG73. If she is not super geeky/concerned with having the newest, latest, and greatest (like I am sometimes), that phone will not be outdated for her for awhile. It is my "daily driver" and phone of choice, and I love how solid and rugged it is. Although newer phones are coming out (if the Droid 2 comes out in less than 30 days, I suggest she return the Droid for the Droid 2 - all she would need to pay is a restocking fee, but it's worth if for a faster/newer phone of the same type), this is a stable phone.

Too bad the Droid 2 is coming out in August, not July. :(

Well, How Tech Savoy is She. If She Is Not Then A Droid Will Be Fine And She Will Be Happy without knowing her phone is "old".
If She is tech savoy I would just wait and get the Droid X

Have her wait until the Droid 2 comes out. It is not the same thing as rooting a Droid. Rooting a Droid will let you save apps to the SD Card, but not all apps. Actually, Google suggests you don't save the majority of apps to the SD card. With the Droid 2, the internal memory (where apps are saved on the Droid) is ridiculously larger on the Droid 2, then the Droid. This means she won't constantly have to delete apps to make room when her phone says "Low on memory."
