Should we expect another wi-fi fix?

Hi everyone,

I am getting a new phone from t-mobile this weekend (free Father's Day special)

I've had a Samsung Vibrant for two years, and I hate the phone. I also hate that Samsung sold such a pos phone. I have no love for this company. However, I've heard that the Galaxy S2 is phenomenal (if you can stand TW...which I am fine with)

So, I'm very much looking forward to switching to the ONE S, giving up my removable battery/storage options, and starting a new relationship with HTC.

However, I am almost always using wi-fi calling. Normal reception in my apt. is almost non-existent.

Would the safe bet be to buy the SGS2, even though it's a year old, and will probably not be updated much over the next two years, or would the safe bet be HTC, which is a brand new phone, and will be supported for at least another year.

Long story short, do you think the wi-fi calling issue will be fixed?

And short story long, which phone would you recommend I purchase?

You'll never have cell like quality with the WiFi calling feature. I've had issues with the sensation and the g2x prior to the One S. With that being said it can be improved in regards to what has been released.

I guess my question is more geared to those who know HTC well, and what the expectations may be toward them acknowledging that the wi-fi is still an issue, and sending out further fixes.

Though, I just heard that I can get a free Cell-Fi Signal booster from T-mobile. So maybe wi-fi calling isn't as big an issue, anymore

I wouldn't. HTC and Tmo might send another update but how long will it take them for that?

Sure they just sent an update but it didn't fix any of the issues I had before, I still don't get notifications for half of my emails/text messages, voice dialing still turns on at the most random times ever, text messages won't go through sometimes for no reason whatsoever (I have good coverage because I am receiving texts while I can't send).

I vote no for One S.

Thanks! I've been leaning toward buying the Galaxy S2 today, instead. I made the mistake of buying the Samsung Vibrant when it first came out, and vowed never to buy another brand new phone again. However, the One S has so many attractive qualities to it!

At the end of the day, I think the Galaxy S2 is more versatile, has a competitive camera, and has been tested and fixed for over a year now. Now I just hope they don't end support for it.

I had had enough of the Amaze 4G, which was doing all kinds of crazy things.. so worked it out that T-Mobile allowed me to do a full upgrade a bit early. I have had to send 2 Amaze units back to them. After looking at the SII and considering the SIII that is coming out next week... I decided on the One S. The SIII is just way to big for me and the SII is nearing it's end-of-life.

Other than a major issue with Wi-Fi Calling (I keep getting error messages that say my "SIM card isn't ready"... the One S is performing far better than any other smartphone I have ever had. T-Mobile is trying to figure out why I am getting that error message. They reprovisioned my SIM card and account, but still no Wi-Fi Calling. I didn't know that Wi-Fi Calling is handled on a totally seperate server and I was not connected to that server... so far no luck in fixing it. The fact is that Wi-Fi Calling is no big deal to me and I rarely ever use it... to fickle and the call quality is not good. So if they never fix it I could care less. The fact is that the One S is a terrific phone... glad I got it!

Yeah, I finally pulled the trigger and went with the Galaxy S2, despite the size, Touchwiz, and end-of-life. However, wi-fi calling is too important to me (office buildings, apartment, etc).

Also, while the camera on the HTC One S is fast as all hell, and the pictures are beautiful and vibrant, almost all reviews say the Galaxy S2 has better color reproduction, which is important to me. I can always over saturate in an editing program (I hope). I also like having a hard backup of important files, in case the hard drive were to fail (and for some reason can't get onto the cloud elsewhere).

So does your Galaxy S2 help with WiFi calling, then? Calls are clear? I am very disappointed in the WiFi calling feature in my HTC One S. Love the phone otherwise, but WiFi reception is alternately spotty, garbled, pops harshly or just drops out for 5 seconds at a time. I can stand a foot away from the router without hearing any improvement in the reception. Latest T-Mobile update hasn't made a dime of difference.

As I live in the country right now, too far from T-Mobile towers, I desperately need this feature to function ? it's a primary reason I got the new phone.

T-Mobile's advice is to stand within 15 feet of the router but again, useless. Anyway, I'm wondering if Is this an HTC One S-pecific problem or a more general Android issue.

Try turning off the wi fi setting and reboot the phone wait a few minutes then turn the WiFi back on it should work good.it worked for me.
