should we not update to froyo

If your phone is stock then update and you will be fine.

I have a strong suspicion most of the horror stories are from not so tech savvy users who rooted the phone prior to the update.

If you are rooted, research how to flash your phone back to stock before you upgrade. If you need root, root after the upgrade.

Mine was stock and the updated messed mine up(got stuck on bootup "m") just got my replacement today, I think its on both ends rooted and stock, again just my opinion...

gjx,

I have no doubt there are some incidents of stock phones getting bricked. I attribute this to data stream interruptions during the OTA download. I definitely do not discount legitimacy of your claim.
However, this is no reason not to attempt to get the new OS. In your case, Verizon replaced your phone. Lord knows I would be pissed because I use my Droid all day long!

I'm hearing reports from people that the update has been suspended any truth to these reports? Data stream interruptions my be a possibility, when download of my upgrade i did have poor signal...

I believe a lot of people recommend a hard reset after install as well whether you have issues or not...I had no issues and did one anyway and it made a big difference. Other than the lock screen I couldn't tell a difference and even swore my ringer didn't get louder. Once I saw the posts that a factory reset was a good idea for everyone with or without problems I did one. World of a difference now. Phone is much faster and now my ringer is much much louder and I have no other issues I have read about on here. So maybe moto and verizon should just recommend the factory reset to everyone as part of the update instructions.

Sorry for being a noob, but can someone tell me what is involved in a factory reset? What do you have to do? Does it mean re-installing and setting up all of your apps again? My phone is stock, and I have not updated yet, primarily because I'm hoping whatever bugs there are will be worked out soon with a new update. So far, Verizon has not tried to push the update to my phone (I haven't gotten any pop-ups asking me to install or not.)

My main concern is that I do rely heavily on several apps to organize my life, I've got tons of widgets that also help in this, and my Droid functions pretty much as my external mind. I feel it is pretty likely that if I had to re-install and re-set-up all of my apps that I depend so heavily on, that it would take hours to do so and I'd be highly frustrated with having to spend so much time getting the phone back to doing what I need it to. Especially since I just went through all that less than a month ago when I bought the X to replace my blackberry.

That's simply not true.

Most are very happy with their update. And, this forum exists (as all do) as a place for people to come with problems and to get device support.

If you've modified, pre-leaked, rolled back or otherwise modified your device, yes, I'd be afraid. In that case, asking the question in the Hacks forum would be me more appropriate. If you're an average user, there is absolutely no reason not to download it. If VZ is indeed suspending the device, good on them to make even more improvements. However, that doesn't change the fact that most stock X's are NOT experiencing the issues any alleged update is supposed to fix.
Dural,
Alot of times the issues generated by a Upgrade are not specifically the Upgrade or enhancement, but rather the "operator caused"- Thats what I was tring to say earlier, and I watch your posts and see that most of what you say is correct- I do not have a droid yet, I have locked "Horns" with AT&T, and am trying to move on to a Droid X- and Verizon.
After numerous experiences wiith AT&T and Blackberry 9700, I find that whats offered here suits my fancy better-
I thought that possibly getting a Droid X with 2.2 or 2.3 installed at Factory would be better, its a Clean Install rather than a install over a older version. Any Guidance? on that thought
Thank You!

Count me in with the no issues group. I have had no problems and the improvements are really nice. If you have stock phone than you should be fine.

you MUST work for VZW as every post of yours is a defense of the new bug infested OS. Most are happy??? Where exactly did you deduce that little gem? The poll on this site, last I checked had more than 1/3 of the users finding it either buggy or downright hated it. And no, unlike your previous posts suggest, many were NOT rooted or modified before updating. Fact is, this new 'improved' Froyo is far away from being ready for prime time and while I'm no Apple fan their OS is ROCK solid upon release...............their hardware is another issue altogether.

My wife is running 2.2 and I will NOT under any circumstance upgrade so I remain rooted and happy. Guess which one of us wants to return their phone?????

You'd be 100% wrong on your first two sweeping assumptions.
