Show of hands, who else has "/data/system/throttle"?

I just noticed this folder: /data/system/throttle on my phone.
Does anybody know anything else about this?

I don't have anything in my data folder. Did a search using astro file manager and could not find anything named throttle. I am rooted and using Port of ath3nos's Unofficial CM7 rom.

I've been running with a modified services.jar for the last couple days since I'm on the road and I really need to tether. But I really haven't noticed anything that would be worth some of the force closes I've got messing with bluetooth and other things.
Also wanted to say that services.jar is where they restrict wifi tethering for those that don't know. I started going through it and documenting all the changes using the compare function in notepad++. But got about 75% through and said the hell with that for now.
Not to get off subject but I'm going to am I the only one thats seen someone else with an optimus V pulled mine out and then struck up a conversation about whether or not their phone is rooted. I'm the guy in math class with my phone out on the table LOL

The throttle bits are part of the core framework. Nothing hidden. WiFi tethering works just fine (except for the occasional reboot on enable) in CM7 without any changes. Likewise USB tethering works... sometimes. But that's likely a kernel issue. If VMU is really depending on software in the phone to rate limit, they'll soon learn the lesson that cable companies learned in the first days of cable internet access.

yeah I followed the links in the thread mmarz posted about. In the end people started to claim t-mobile was making people get new sim cards and the sim card had the ability to toggle throttle is they sent you a text. Towards the end of the thread somebody posted that it was all bull. As all of the people that claimed to have not been getting throttled probably lived in a area where the hardware to throttle hadnt been implemented on the data centers and towers centers. Also the files are in every phone as its part of basic android according to one poster.

The whole bit sounds very suspicious of editing these files. Why? We dont have sim cards and according to a article posted back a couple days/weeks ago there is no way for VM to OTA us. This would have had to be in the works since before the Optimus was released.

VM has a very primative system for turning data on and off and Im sure within that system is the ability to limit each customers speed. Also the fact we get the leftovers of Sprint and Boost means they already have the ability to throttle individual speeds down.

I think this is a move to keep people from buying the optimus v and using it as a hotspot for their house instead of paying 60 bucks to the cable company.

I don't mind if they throttle, it'll probably help weed out the abusers anyway so the rest of us can have more reliable speeds. 256kbps after throttle is still ok, still good for music streaming & very efficient codec video streaming.
