This was taken with the wide angle lens. I'm honestly not a big fan of wide angle shots in general but I plan to experiment some with it in hopes it'll grow on me.

Here are some side by side comparisons of the V30 and Pixel 2 XL, both shot in full auto with auto HDR. You can scroll left to right to see both photos of the same compositions - V30 on left, Pixel 2 XL on right.

You can see the Pixel consistently outperforms the V30. But I am surprised by how close it is. The V30 holds its own quite well going against the class leader, considering it has a whole another dimension to its photography with its wide angle. Pixel 2 shines more in bright outdoors with its HDR processing; well-lit indoor shots are even closer between the two.

One question - do you have the Google camera app on the V30? Pixel doesn't have any more advanced hardware than anyone else, and all Google's magic is done in the processing, so would be interesting to see a comparison between the two using the same camera app.
