Hi, got Android 14 on my Nokia XR21 the other day. Directly noticed I can see my WhatsApp messages on plain sight on lock screen. No biggie, go int settings and turn off the "Show sensitive notifications on lock screen" to off. Yay, now it shows there is a message from WhatsApp but it's hidden. Until maybe half a day or the next day the setting is back on. Has happened multiple times now. Tried to restart phone but still happens.

Any ideas?

Welcome to Android Central! Do you routinely power the phone off every night? If so, I wonder if that's why (although the setting you choose should still be remembered after a power cycle).

Thank you for your reply. It happens during the day, I might notice it say 9 in the morning that the notification has turned on again. I go into settings and turn it off. Then it might be at 14:00 I notice it has turned on again. Today I noticed they were on again at around 10:00, I turned them off and it has stayed off. No power cycling. I have tried to hold the powerbutton down over ten seconds so it does a hard boot but that was a few days ago and didn't help.

Sounds like a bug , see if you can report it

How do I report a bug?

Hi Thomas, did you get anywhere with this? I also have a Nokia and I'm having the same problem. Their customer service is useless so far

Have tried changing the Notification Settings for WharsApp to Hide Content?

Welcome to Android Central! The OP never mentioned if they tested in Safe Mode, as I last suggested. Can you try that?
Thank you I will try it out, it takes a while for it to change though, not sure how long, so I guess I would have to keep it in safe mode constantly? I think I would first have to monitor the phone to see how long it takes to change otherwise I am not going to know when I should expect it to change back

The OP mentioned that it seems to happen after about 12-24 hours, so if you're seeing the same kind of pattern, you'd just have to test in Safe Mode for about that long. I realize it's a hassle not to be able to use your 3rd party apps, but it's still a helpful troubleshooting step.

Mine takes a lot longer than that

That can be too much of a hassle then.

When it happens, does it seem to correspond to when WhatsApp is updated in the Play Store?

It's not to do with Whats App, that's just an example he is using I think. The problem is the with notification settings for showing sensitive content on lock screen. At least in my case, it is to do with that. I don't even have WhatsApp. I just don't want someone to be able to steal my phone and get any login code for 2 step identification because the text messages display their content on the lock screen

Hmm, that's pretty strange. I can't think of a reason why a system setting that the user selected would switch back on its own. You may want to reach out to Nokia support about this.

They were totally useless on chat, I am now in contact with them via email. It just happened again since changing them on Oct 30th. So that is around 48 hours. I am not sure if that's typical, I will have to keep observing

That's good to know that it's an odd thing to be happening though. Wasn't sure if it was a recognised bug or widely known or something. Haven't been able to find much info googling

Also it is a different Nokia model, G22

Never got anywhere, the support is useless. Just learned to live with it, I keep turning on the "Hide sensitive" and it keeps turning it back off. Been waiting to see if an Android update or security update would fix it but not as far as yet. And as you said, I just used Whatsapp as an example, it shows all sensitive when that tick is off. So text messages, bank notifications etc, all that are set as sensitive.

My guess is that Nokia's firmware is buggy in this respect. Unfortunately, all you can do is send feedback to Nokia about this and hope they do something about it, but considering the ineffective support you've gotten from them, that seems like a fairly low chance. 😣
