@rikken i'm just wondering what mode you use most often to get the beautiful shots you share with us? Do you just use Basic or one of the professional modes? Ive had mine for just less than a week and love it. i'm a camera enthusiast and have several Sony cameras and over the years have had many. I am comfortable with shooting in Manual mode but have been playing with Basic and i'm impressed. The automatic night mode works great and i love the automatic macro mode. nothing worthy to share so far as i've been stuck at home. by the way @rikken are you on Glass? Because i would love to follow you on there.

Tx for nice feedback. I vary between Basic, Auto and P Mode in effort to bring out the potential of this camera. Basic Mode is actually very potent imo as it gives easy access to whitebalance, color temperature, bokeh and video. I am still on a learning curve when it comes to night photography. Glass is unknown to me.

shot these of my son yesterday. i was in bright sunlight at my back so i put the camera in manual mode and used the histogram to know i was dialed in. i also had it set to continuos high speed. these are only 2 of around 80 shots all in focus. without the histogram i would have been lost. loving a true camera phone.

edit: this was the 70mm lens

Great action shots!

Are these taken with Xperia 1 iii?

Those are great shots. Am more interested to capture kids and I know Sony is the only option. But all the reviews mention soft images and bad dynamic range. Please share your experience.

you can’t rely on the “professional” reviews. i don’t know what phone they supposedly had, but they got so much wrong. just one example, almost all claimed the phone didn’t have a night mode. that’s just wrong. whenever you are in low light, using the Basic camera mode you see the words “night mode” appear on the screen. i can’t share it here if i want to remain married. i shot a beautiful photo of my wife sleeping on our couch late at night, in the dark with just a hint of warm light across her face from a kitchen light. no visible noise and sharp. similar to an iPhone 12 pro series, it displays a 3-4 sec countdown timer where you hold the phone still while its developing the photo.

for fast moving kids i think this phone is great. but you need to use the manual controls imho. if you know how exposure works or are willing to learn, i think you’ll get great shots indoors and out. you just need to understand how to set the shutter speed and compensate the ISO accordingly to get sharp shots. on a phone its easy as you have one less thing to worry about since you can’t adjust the aperture. for indoors and wanting to shoot action, i am only using the main camera. it has the largest aperture. for outdoors and in good light i use all cameras.

i had the 1 ii and i don’t think the telephoto lens did such a nice job as the 1 iii does. like the skateboard shots, i wasn’t confident i would get great shots. i really couldn’t see the screen. i was in bright sun and i didn’t have my reading glasses on. so i just relied on the histogram and imo the photos came out great. with the 70mm supposedly soft lens.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Am an A7C user and very comfortable with manual controls. I was so excited for Xperia 1 iii that I purchased an open box Xperia 1 ii before release of 1 iii, played with it for 30 days and returned it. I had good time and took great shots of my kids. In all the reviews I saw for 1 iii, I see all reviewers complaining about shots being less sharp and having horrible dynamic range. Am not sure if this can be improved with firmware update. Appreciate if you can share photos taken with bright light in background or shots taken in any tricky light situations and share with me to download. Thanks again for your reply.
