Sick of Waiting?

I can't be the only one sick of waiting for even the slightest bit of info from Samsung or Sprint, right? I mean, how long ago was that pic leaked showing the "Galaxy S Pro" with Sprint 4G branding? I feel like freakin' Oliver Twist over here, "Please sir, I want some more."

This must be what Apple fanboys feel like... waiting for the slightest rumor and tidbit even though we know the only thing that'll satisfy us is the actual damn product!

If I could just get an official release date, I'd bite my tongue and bide my time. Maybe on the Engadget Show tomorrow. *crosses fingers*

I agree with you. I am not even sure I want the Epic but I would like to know more information about it.

Is your phone still working OK? Mine isnt and I have been in need of a fully functional phone for quite some time now and all I can do is bang my head against my desk in hopes that sprint and samsung will hear my cries of pain. *disclaimer* I loved my phone until it started to literally fall apart software and hardware wise.

At this point Im so desperate that Im not even willing to wait for my upgrade even though it is only 11 days after the estimated release of the phone.

I agree too. Its especially painful since there are perfectly viable Samsung Galaxy S alternatives on the market, in stock, and ready to go. But all of the other variants are missing small features that make the Epic so much better.

Given that we're into August already and haven't heard any official date set, I'm now questioning if Aug 20th is even a possibility.

It's almost comical how many of us are in the same boat. My Pre died and can no longer connect with Sprints network- they admitted over the phone they should swap my phone no charge- BUT because my phone has signs of physical damage (pulling the damn microUSB door cracked the screen) the stores won't swap the phone without the deductable- which I refuse to pay knowing the Epic is around the corner.

Thank goodness I held on to my Treo 755 after upgrading to the pre- but it's a TERRIBLE excuse for a smartphone these days- crashed so much I deactivated ALL apps and use it for contacts, calendar, and SMS (and only occaisional prompted email only) Funny thing is the calendar and contact support- is a better phone than the Epic will be.

I'm dying without my podcasting and music streaming- not having good google map access and- no mobile web is a pain on weekends.

I really have to admit- I hope the announcement is on sale THIS weekend- even though that'd cause a bit of mass hysteria.

I freaked out for a bit yesterday morning when I accidentally dropped my Pre down some concrete stairs and it wouldn't turn back on initially. Fortunately the battery just needed to be reseated -- the snap-on case took the brunt of the punishment.

I've also been holding off on buying slick-looking apps since I'll just have to repurchase them for Android anyway...

Yeah I dropped my pre on a pile of laundry. You would think oh thats just soft clothing and its probably fine, well you would be dead wrong. My volume button fell off and a few weeks later the button chip is hanging out and not functional (I have to adjust the volume through software now). As for the USB door well that is looong gone and Im not really missing it as it was a PITA and required me to slide the phone open just to use open it. I also have slider issues, oreo issues and sometimes sliding it open/pressing the power button/pressing anything when slide open does not turn the screen on and make it usable. Not to mention a plethora of minor software issues that drive me nuts.

Dont get me wrong I LOVE webos and all but there is still alot of work that needs to be done and to be quite frank the hardware is junk. Until they realize that android type hardware is what smartphone users want and need as well as work out some of the bugs (still a rather new OS especially compared to iOS and android) they are not going to compete. Maybe in a year or so when they realize and execute this Ill go back, but for now all I can think about (phone wise) is getting this droid and not having to worry about silly issues that shouldnt be on a production phone these days.

I too am tired of waiting. My upgrade date was 8/1. I called 2 Radio Shack stores and am now on the list to get the HTC EVO when it comes in. Best Buy won't put you on a list, just 1st come 1st serve. Sprint screwed up me being the premier customer and still hasn't fixed that yet. Will be happy to sell this Palm Pre to anyone.

Same boat here.
I've got an 8525 that is near-unusable. The LCD fades out intermittently, the keyboard doesn't work right, it loses signal at the drop of a hat, and it's on AT&T (the final sin :))
Given that the Droid 2 has been pretty much confirmed for 12 August, Sprint had better get on the ball with SOME sort of news. I'm going to keep waiting of course! They're just getting on my nerves!

Oh it's hilarious. This Epic 4G forum is riddled with us who have dying/dead phones. I have a G1, and while I loved it and it served its purpose dutifully, it's time to let the dinosaur rest.

It's had a cracked screen since September '09, with no noticeable dysfunction. But now the thing will just freakin die if I use it too much. Too much texting? Dead. Quick-switch to Facebook from Handcent? Sometimes dead. Make a two minute phone call without being plugged in? Dead.

The best part is, it's not even the battery. Soon as I turn it back on, it's like "yeah dude, 50% battery left." Not that it matters since if it dies this way, I *have* to plug it in while it reboots or it'll die again.

[side note] I'm also really excited to be able to use a phone in my office's parking garage, since Sprint reaches three floors down here somehow.

Also want to add that with the recent HP acquisition, phone development is bound to hit a few road bumps. No major company can be acquired and get right back to business without *some* sort of interruption.

I think Palm is phobic about repeating the Handspring / Treo issue. They licensed out the OS way back in the day - and then Handspring (made of some EX Palm employees) co-developed/licenesed a better calendar (datebook) and eventually developed the Treo phone concept and Palm was almost dead in the water as a result. They should have NEVER tried to go into hardware development with Pre- and should have licensed the OS to every interested handset maker along with a design "suggestion" of the pre and touchstone charger- but they have so RARELY created solid hardware/software combinations in the past...

broken touchscreen on pre + having to use my old treo 700wx = screaming at samsungmobileus' twitter comments about how close its getting.

They tried this idea it the PalmOS. The problem is who'll lease the software? Android OS is free. What business would choose the webOS over the Android? It simply isn't a smart business decision to lease it out because no one would want to.

Even the Dang Blackberry Torch has a date!

Ironically enough the Torch is releasing on the same "speculated" date as the Droid 2. You would think if Sprint had a competitive device they would want to get it to market. Oh now if only they had such a device...

I'm hoping that they are holding off a release date announcement to confirm whether or not they can release with Froyo. I like to look at things on the bright side, but its getting darker and darker by the day waiting on the Epic. I currently am a proud owner of a Pre, but as the song goes... The Thrill is Gone.

After the HP acquisition I just felt a little bummed about owning a Pre. I don't know why because getting pulled under HPs umbrella is probably better for them, but I know there is going to be a long wait for new hardware, which webOS is in definite need of.

Now I find myself as giddy as a school girl about the Epic, which is how I felt about the Pre up until a month or two ago. I figure I'll give Palm a year to get their acts together, while I check out the Android experience. I can't wait :)
