Also want to add that with the recent HP acquisition, phone development is bound to hit a few road bumps. No major company can be acquired and get right back to business without *some* sort of interruption.
Yeah I know that will hamper things for a little bit, but I would think that they could and should squeak out a phone by the holiday season.
I think Palm is phobic about repeating the Handspring / Treo issue. They licensed out the OS way back in the day - and then Handspring (made of some EX Palm employees) co-developed/licenesed a better calendar (datebook) and eventually developed the Treo phone concept and Palm was almost dead in the water as a result. They should have NEVER tried to go into hardware development with Pre- and should have licensed the OS to every interested handset maker along with a design "suggestion" of the pre and touchstone charger- but they have so RARELY created solid hardware/software combinations in the past...
I have not had a good palm phone hardware and software combo since the treo line.
broken touchscreen on pre + having to use my old treo 700wx = screaming at samsungmobileus' twitter comments about how close its getting.![]()
I am about to head home and reactivate my LG lotus due to being totally fed up. Im not going to sprint to pay the $50 just to ride the pre for a week or so. Im only hesitant because there are things that I will lose that I use everyday....oh wait I can no longer use those features.
They tried this idea it the PalmOS. The problem is who'll lease the software? Android OS is free. What business would choose the webOS over the Android? It simply isn't a smart business decision to lease it out because no one would want to.
Nobody. Palm is a spec on the map at best nowadays. Their reputation is tarnished and even businesses have switched to crackberries. The only ones that seem to hold onto palm are diehards like me who have used the brand for many years.
