Sick to death of android market issues

This has been going on, for me atleast for over a month now and no matter what I do or what others have done that I've read about here and on other forums, there is no real viable fix. I'm running my droid with 2.1, and am not rooted.

What is up with the android market, it randomly just sits on "Loading" if I launch it. Sometimes it will just sit on "Searching" when I'm trying to search the market, other times the downloads will hang up continuously and I have to cancel them and start over, and other times it FC's.

I've read about people trying different things like using a task manager to stop the app and then go back in, or try putting ur phone in Airplane mode for a few seconds, or going into Applications and clearing cache/updates, and pretty much everything else you can think of but none of it is a real fix. I've even read of people who have reset their phones to factory default and started all over and still have problems. I've posted on the google market issues help pages, and read the thread here on AC but have yet to find a fix for this.

Does anyone have any more ideas; I hate the fact of paying all this money for the phone and the monthly fees when I can't access one of the main features of the phone whenever I want too.

Ugh.... :(

Thats odd. I have had the Droid and Incredible and neither have ever done this. Are you in a bad coverage area?

i was having similar issues. when i did the cache wipe/uninstall updates that seemed to fix things.

Hate to offer nothing constructive....but, I've never had the problems you are having. Sorry.

You guys are no help at all...LOL!! j/k. :)

It's just really frustrating, I read on forums and even AC here did a review about it a week ago or so offering some advice that I mentioned as having tried already but nothing seems to consistently work and it's bugging the hell out of me.

I get that also, I think the root cause is lack of memory and clearing tasks and correcting any sync issues (I think caused by lack of memory), seem to generally fix it for me.

So basically after I've got some memory back, go to Settings->Accounts and Sync" and click on the accounts, if there are sync dots there that are not rotating then restart sync until they go away... I think the syncing must be single threaded and a problem on a sync holds up everything else.

only problems I have is that it says "starting download" for a LONG time sometimes...

and if I try to access it over wifi at the mall it cant connect to the market at all, but it works on wifi at my house and friends houses.

Can't remember ever having that issue. I'd check the running apps and stop as many as possible till, hopefully, the problem stops, then maybe (assuming it's an app that's causing it) you can pin down the offending program or service.

Known issue. This doesn't really help if you aren't rooted though.

Code:
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8' standalone='yes' ?>
<map>
<boolean name="local_db_sync_required" value="false" />
<int name="SERVER_VERSION" value="1000" />
<string name="vending_tos_version">1.0.0</string>
<long name="MARKET_LAST_HEARTBEAT_TIMESTAMP" value="1271657433127" />
<long name="last_sync_time" value="1271659724720" />
<long name="last_tickle_id" value="1271657514775" />
<int name="reconciled_version" value="1710" />
<boolean name="metadata_paid_apps_enabled" value="true" />
<string name="vending_backup_state">vending</string>
<string name="vending_tos_version">1.0.0</string>
</map>

Save this as vending_preferences.xml in a unix text editor (Notepad++ works for windows)

pull and backup your existing
/data/data/com.android.vending/shared_prefs/vending_preferences.xml

Overwrite it with this one.

If you're not rooted you need to do a full factory reset to clear out data/data and you should be good to go. Until it happens again.

That's something I have not tried yet; I keep my auto sync off to save battery but Im wondering if I turn it on if that might help the situation. It's worth a shot.

This is not meant to hijack at all so I apologize if it comes off as that. But I too am sick of one major Android Market issue... the inability to use my Google account that shares the same e-mail as my Google Apps account. The same Google account that was used to buy the phone and is incorporated into all other aspects of the phone. I know there is a workaround but I flat out refuse to use it (we shouldn't have to). So until that is fixed, I have been paying the devs directly.

So you have a problem with them making it EASIER to pay for apps???

Everything synced to one ID/Email is great, not sure why you would have an issue with something like that

What you are saying is that a bug on Google's end that causes many users to NOT be able to make Market purchases using their Google account (and in most cases, the same one that the phone was bought through using Google Checkout), they are making things EASIER? Ummmm, not quite buddy. The "workaround" (which you responded to as making things EASIER) would be having to make a completely different Google account using a different e-mail address to be used with Checkout. So how is that EASIER? (emphasis on the caps since you insisted on stressing it in caps).

Even Helen Keller could see clear as day that this is a customer impacting bug due to poorly unified account types.

One example of reported bug: Issue 2332 - android - Market should allow Google Apps users to purchase - Project Hosting on Google Code
Another example of reported bug: Issue 8064 - android - Market: Conflict Google and Google Apps accounts - Project Hosting on Google Code
"Workaround": Google Apps for my domain (GAFYD), Android Market, Google Checkout and the Google Account

Ok. The end. My apologies for this thread swaying a little.

EDIT: I'M EATING MY OWN WORDS SINCE IN MY ORIGINAL POST, I USED THE WORD "ABILITY" INSTEAD OF "INABILITY" WHICH MEANS z0phi3l PROPERLY RESPONDED TO WHAT I SAID. TYPE-O WAS MY FAULT AND DID MAKE MY ISSUE SOUND LIKE SOMETHING THAT MAKES THINGS EASIER. I fixed my type-o in the original post but figured it wouldn't be fair to not throw the hammer back in my own face for being retarded today (A.K.A., sleep deprived). I apologize, z0phi3l

Back to the original reported point of this thread....

I personally haven't experienced that bug. Nexus One, 2.1, non-rooted. I've never heard any of my Droid using friends make mention to that happening to them. Have you or anyone else opened a bug report for it?

This is chillout, there's a problem with my account password so I made this new account for now till the other one gets fixed...

This site did a blog entry about it and about a week or so ago, and there's a thread somewhere but I can't remember what it's called. In any event, I decided to just dive in and do a factory reset. I backed up all my apps using Astro, did the reset, installed them back on using Astro, and since that time the market has been working normally. *knock on wood*.

In retrospect, I'm kinda glad I did the reset anyways because there was a ton of apps on my phone that I never use and didn't even realize were on there. Also there were a ton of residual files from old apps that I didn't need anymore that I got rid of. All in all my droid runs smooth and I freed up a boat load of space on the phone memory side of it so regardless of if this fixes the issue with the market for me, I'm glad I did it anyways.

Perhaps it's an app that was causing the problem, at this point I don't know but I am tracking back the apps I didn't reinstall and/or deleted before to see if any of those were known problems.
