Side by side test, really slow 3G

Hi All,
I noticed that with my EVO, I was getting very low page loads on 3G. I did a speed test and got around 120 kbps down fairly consistantly. I ran a speed test side by side with my Wife's EVO - I posted the picture below, but I got 120 kbps down and she got 1234 kbps down. Same location, side by side, same speed test app. Mine was fresh from a hard reset, and her settings are all default.

I since exchanged my EVO because I figured it was defective, but I am getting the same speeds on the new one.

So, not sure what is going on. Anyone have any suggestions?

The 3g radio transmitter/receiver operates differently with every device(That's my three cents). You could run tests on five brand new devices, and the results will vary amongst each device. Modern technology.

I understand that, but a 10x speed difference seems very excessive, doesn't it? I never seem to get anything above 125 kbps on my EVO on 3G. This is reflected in page load speeds as well, not just speed tests.

Wow, that shouldn't be like that. I don't care what software versions are on the phone that's pretty bad.

Can you post your software/radio info?

I know it's completely off topic, but Sprint's 3G sucks anyway...

I would go get another replacement EVO

I am in the same boat as the OP. I replaced mine for another and its slower than my epic that I have. I got the evo because I got sick of samsung and its 2.2 upgrade that will never happen. Yes, it is running the leaked 2.2 but I would like an official so that we can get some customer kernels, etc.

@Flyer - actually, I took task killer off after that (did a hard reset) and speeds were unchanged. My wife is running task killer and was getting 10x speeds over mine. I am not running task killer now.

I tried the data reset and am now getting slightly better speeds...I got 448 down (but only 79 up) outside my office today, which is MUCH better than before. It is still spotty at times, but that may be network traffic - I am in Los Angeles.

Yes, all software/firmware versions were the same between the two phones.

So, with the data reset, I am a bit better than I was before. I also have a trouble ticket open with Sprint, so we'll see what they say.

Just because you did a reset (factory or otherwise) does not mean that it was successful so that everything is fixed. There can be minor issues with the reset that will not show up while it is going on that can cause issues. If you ever had tried to install Windows you know that no two installations are the same.

To that end you may want to reset the phone again and see what happens.

My speeds generally suck as well, and alot of other people have posted this before also. But one thing I noticed was, are you and your wife riding the same tower?

What I mean is, her phone could be pulling in an ip from close by, and yours could be pulling in an ip from Kansas if that makes any sense.
