Any ideas why sideloaded books show covers within the Kindle app but NOT on the library and home page of the Kindle HD ? Not a big deal but not as pretty. I convert using Calibre to mobi format. I use email to Kindle and the send to Kindle desktop app to place books in the cloud. The cloud is a must to sync between devices. Thanks

Check your conversion settings and see if the cover thumbnail is embedded on the file or not (it may be saved as just an external thumbnail, and if that is not exported to the Kindle, the 'preview' will not show. Can't remember where that option is in Calibre, though... But I think I recall seeing it directly on the conversion screen, so that shouldn't be hard to find.

Update: Was looking into this and apparently this has been a deliberate change on Amazon's side :( If you use the phone/tablet apps, once you open the book and open the cover page, it will show the thumbnail. But on Kindle devices, the thumbnail is deliberately 'broken'. Some users on Kindle/Paperwhite readers have reported that letting the device 'break' the preview, disconnecting from a computer, re-connecting using Calibre and then manually changing the preview image in the folder works, but seems not everyone has had success with that method (can't hurt to try, though!).

Again, now that ePub support seems to be taking over (you can no longer upload AZW or MOBI via e-mail or their app) maybe they'll change that, but for now, it's a 'bug' that feels like it's on purpose.
